I just barely had a breath from the last auction-style free listings promo before eBay send me another free listings promo but I am happy anyway.  I noticed that my sales are up whenever I get free listings promos, so it helps each time.  Thanks eBay!

Yeah that is alot or free listing promos in the last little while nice but it does make everything go crazy listing increase like crazy making many items a needle in a haystack but I have been working with them and making it work for me lately ..

I would guess ebay is trying to end the year with a good financial bang

Have you actually checked the numbers? I monitor in my category and listing promos rarely impact the total number of listings by more than 10%.

Does it matter if the haystack is 4 million listings during a promo but "only" 3.5 million when there is no promo?

Right at the moment where we are in the middle of a recent Auction promo and still under the effects of a Fixed price promo there are actually fewer listings in Music than there was at one point in October when NO promo's were running.

When it is only a nickel to list for everyone in movies and games all the time the fp promos don't make any difference.  Listings are on  the increase now, but they always are toward xmas.  There is actually far, far less competition for Canadians selling low price/smallish items then there was this time last year before huge usps intl rate increase.  Any increase in listings is a fraction of the American listings priced out of Canada and badly hurt to overseas
