I do not have a store and have been taking advantage of the ebay listings specials for the past year - It has worked out well. Even though I have been passed over for the last 3 specials I still get my 50 Free .com and .c for a total of 100 free listings per month.
Here is my math. If I open a basic store at $19.95/month, I get 150 free listings. The thing is that to compare the cost, I need to subtract the 100 free listings that I would be getting anyway as a non-store. I am then left with 50 "free". $19.95 per month divided by 50 = .40 per listing. So if I go with a store, I am paying .40 for the extra "free" listings.
I can do the same with the premium Store - 500 free listings minus the 100 that I would get anyway, therefore 400 "free listings". 59.96 divided by 400 equals about .15 cents a listing.
Hope everyone can follow me. Most of my postcards sell for about $4.00 each, so it takes a while to cover the cost of a store.
Any bets on whether there will be any more free listing days?

Looking exclusively at the dollar and cents, there is no big advantage having or not having a store in your case. No bid loss either.
Of your 149 current listings, only 4 are priced at $20/$25 while the majority (145) are priced below $10.
What you would gain with a store is an identity, a place where all your listings will be offered under one roof, regardless where you list them. A store also gives you access to tools not available without one: "Markdown Manager" comes to mind as a most useful tool. Is it worth the extra few dollars a store would give you? Most definitely.

The ability to build a mailing list from your store - and use it weekly for discounted items (using Markdown Manager) will - over time - help you build a steady business on eBay. More so as many of your items attract collectors - buyers who often purchase more than one item at the time and regularly come back for more.
The other advantage of having a store is that you can plan your sales and marketing program based on your product availability and your time - not eBay's promotion timing.
Good Luck

My understanding is that if you get a store, you can list 150 free on eBay.ca and eBay.com for a total of 300 free per month.
Pierre asked that question in on of the weekly sessions and I confirmed by eMail to Kalvin.

I have checked the Wed. board and I can't find Pierre's question about this, or the reply. Would you give a link please?

To list on .ca and .com, would you not have to pay the basic fee on both for a store ? I just can't see eBay giving you anything for free that way.

Post 32 is the question by Pierre
Just to clarify : a premium store will get 500 free listings (auction or fixed price) on eBay.ca
AND 500 free listings (auction or fixed price) on eBay.,com
for a total of 1,000 listings (auction or fixed price).
Is that correct?
Post 34 is the reply.
Hi pierrelebel.
That is correct.
When I saw this, I emailed Kalvin after that weekly session and asked for a confirmation. The reply was it was true.
USA sellers on ebay.com can also list the same amount on eBay.ca. How long this double listings will be allowed depends on how many sellers use this.

That is precisely why I emailed Kalvin for confirmation. Rodney from ebay had replied to Pierre and I wanted to make sure it was true. I asked twice in the emails on the question about free. First part of emails omitted, leaving the second time where I asked specifically in detail about non-store and store with listings amounts for confirmation again. So no communication mistake on my part or Kalvin's reply.

To be clear, please confirm.
If I list on ebay.ca and on ebay.com, then I will get the same amount of free listings on each site.
Non-store - 50 free each on ebay.ca and ebay.com for a total of 100 free
Basic store @ 19.95/month (15.95 yearly) - 150 free each on ebay.ca and ebay.com for a total of 300 free
Premium store @ 59.95/month (49.95 yearly) - 500 free each on ebay.ca and ebay.com for a total of 1000 free
Anchor store @ 199.95/month (179.95 yearly) - 500 free each on ebay.ca and ebay.com for a total of 1000 free

Hi,
Yes, that’s correct. You will get the same amount of free listings on each site.
Hope that helps.

Now that was 12 April 2013. Someone with a store can try it and see if their Listing Offers show a count of free listings on both sites.
Again, if true and proved by someone testing it, how long will eBay allow this. It seems to be a loophole in the fee structure in my opinion.

Store subscription would be expensive for the sales you've been doing. Get another id going if you want to keep more listings up

Thank you SO much pocomocomputing, I don't know why I couldn't find it, I went through about 6 times!
That is really good news, I have been deleting listings to try and keep down to 500 or just over because paying 10 cents for the extra wouldn't make sense. In the past I have tried to keep about 600-650 in my store, and that would almost negate my savings if I am paying that much extra each month.

Seems to me Poco, that Kalvin did not really confirm anything for you. That answer is wide open and says nothing really. Hopefully, someone will try and then let us know for sure.

Hi Toby. I am asking for my wife, whose sales are far better than mine. These recent promotions have actually killed my sales, no matter what I try.

I thought the question and answer I posted was quite clear.
I had also asked in the earlier the emails back and forth to Kalvin and got a confirmation. I did not post that part of the emails. So I asked again clearly with all non-store and store versions (what I posted) specifically stating sites and total free listings and got this second confirmation.

I wonder how it will show up on the Selling Manager? At the moment it has mine as 292 left. I think I will try listing something on the Canadian site and see if the number changes.
05-09-2013 01:48 PM
Once you list an item on eBay.ca, the count will show 499 left on .ca (check the times to determine which is which)

An important factor to remember:
If you list on both eBay.ca and eBay.com, transactions from both sites cannot be combined into one invoice.
It may not be important if you sell mostly individual items to your buyers.
However, sellers selling items generally purchased in multiples by collectors (stamps, postcards, etc...) may find it challenging. It may not be worth the few cents saved in listing fees.

Ah Ha - I am glad I started this thread. I missed the previous postings about getting 150 free on each of .com and.ca in the same store. (total of 300 free) The only problem that I can see is that you can't combine items sold on .com and .ca on the same invoice. I have run into this before and usually try to do all my 50 free .com one week and then 2 weeks later do my 50 free on .ca. The buyers get confused when they get 2 invoices (both will be in USD, shipping on one and the other just the item cost).
05-09-2013 02:00 PM
OOOPs sorry Pierre - just saw that you already responded to the invoicing issue (cannot combine .com and .ca) Sorry!

There will be two counters, one for eBay.ca and one for ebay, com. So once you list on eBay.ca, a second counter will appear.
It is confusing to know which counter is for which site. I usually check on ebay.ca the counters so the ebay.ca counter has a start/end date/time in EDT and the USA site in PDT.

I think that Poco's question to Kalvin and the reply make it crystal clear that we are allowed the free listings on both sites.
I have a basic store and right now my counter shows 15 used 135 left on .ca
40 used 110 left on .com
It doesn't actually say .ca and .com but as mentioned, you can tell by the time zone used.

Two other issues I'm wondering about concerning listing on the two sites:
1) I assume shipping options will be different on .ca and .com -- will Canada Post options be available? For example, if I list at item on .ca for which I'd normally have Expedited USA as the primary shipping, would that shipping type be available for a similar .com listing? Since I always ship from Canada, I need to show Canada Post shipping. Or, as one poster mentioned, does no shipping at all show up?
2) Can the same item be listed on .ca and on .com, or will that be considered a duplicate listing?
