GSP...Am I Gonna Be In For a Nasty Surprise?

If the listing says: US $0.00 (amount confirmed at checkout) for a $60 item....International Priority Shipping to Canada...am I going to be in for a nasty surprise later? How does one know?

When you buy something, you are told at checkout the amount that will be charged to your Paypal account.

Put your hands on your lap and read that.

If it remains what you expected, click on agree.

That will take you to your Paypal account where you actually pay.

Just don't get all excited and keep clicking without reading.

It is very unlikely that Priority Shipping to Canada is free.

It is possible that there is no GSP import fee being charged if the value of the item is under $16USD*

If there is no precise amount under Shipping and Handling on the listing, use Contact Seller to confirm that she ships to Canada and knows that she is enrolled in the Global Shipping Program.

Many sellers don't do either and are shocked and annoyed.

*Because the duty free allowance is $20CDN(~$16USD). But even an item that is duty-free may be charged Sales Taxes and a service fee.

Sylviebee has made several posts about GSP listings that show no "import charges" for items with a value of above C$20.  If my recollection of these posts is correct, there is no line item for "import charges" in Checkout, either.  All the same, Femme's advice is pretty sound, although I'm not sure why she's bringing up USPS's Priority Mail International service when GSP items are not shipped that way.  "International Priority Shipping" is a catch-all description for the GSP's network of subcontracted freight forwarding services and local carriers.

Thank you for your replies but I should clarify...There is a stated charge for International Priority shipping of $24 for this $60 item....That's not the problem. What's throwing me off is the GSP line: US $0.00 (amount confirmed at checkout) .... What if the amount changes to something like $15!...Am I on the hook....or can I decline because of the change?

You have two chances to agree to the payment.
If you don't agree, don't click that you do.
