Hockey Day in Canada.

Any hockey fans out there? Although I am not much of a sports fan, DH is a former hockey referee and is presently a volunteer for Hockey Day in Canada which is being held in Stratford (our home town) this week.

This afternoon he was on duty watching over the trophies which were on display in the Optimist hall. I have posted some of the photos on my About Me page for anyone who is interested.

Unfortunately the Stanley Cup was touring the City (to the schools, hospital, etc.) and he didn't get to see it. It will, however, be in the hall tomorrow and he will see it then.

Peter Mansbridge, who lives in Stratford, will be hosting the National from here on Friday and Saturday. During the NHL game on Saturday night there will be flashbacks to the Stratford Culliton's game here.

A very exciting time for Stratford!

That's a Tim Horton's initiative, isn't it?

I know they've got ads running on the TV's inside of Tim's all the time about this.

It was initiated by the CBC and Tim Hortons is the corporate sponser. (I had to ask DH). This is the 10th year and they hold it in a different place every year so it is unlikely that Stratford would ever host it again.

It will be great for Stratford businesses as they are expecting many thousands of visitors. There was an Alumni game on Tuesday night and a media game tonight.

Dick Irvine was in the hall being interviewed this afternoon and DH had the opportunity to chat briefly with him. Which reminds me that I forgot to post his picture.

It's hard not to get excited about it when you live with an avid hockey fan.

Well, that's not a problem with me - the cats aren't the sporting type.:^O

Now, if we get mouse Olympics, they'd be all over it!

My daughter's last cat was a great bat catcher! (And since we're talking sports I don't mean baseball).:-)

Wondering if the cat ever showed off its "catches"
I'm way too squeamish to handle that. lol

They have an old house and used to get bats inside occasionally. Before they even realized that one was in the house, they would suddenly hear a loud snap. The cat would carry her prey to the basement and hover over it protectively. My son-in-law would praise her and leave her alone for awhile to gloat before he removed the bat from the premises.

I'm glad I wasn't there. We had a bird in the house a couple of times and that would freak me out. A bat would definitely send me over the edge!:^O

I used to have a cat that would go out every morning to hunt.

One day, as I'm leaving the house, I turned and saw a 'gift' that she left for me.

A rabbit head. Staring at me.

She'd eaten the rest.

Ewwww! It would be hard to get that vision out of your head.

We used to have a German shepherd who would catch birds and frogs and bring them to us. If we ran away he would chase us with it thinking that we wanted to play with him. Some were dead and some were still alive.

Ewwww is right. That is so gross Surplus.

Although I don't think that birds and frogs would be much better.

We have quite a few jackrabbits around here. My dog tries to chase them but they are too fast thank goodness. I'm sure a rabbit could beat him up. lol

Could have fallen from the sky...

Birds of prey often lose their catch (or part of it) in flight. We had a toy poodle find a headless possum in the backyard once...

I'd change brands of cat food if any pet cat of mine was eating rabbits!

Don Cherry arrived last night at the William Allman Arena in a firetruck with lights flashing. In the pretaped opening ceremony on CBC he was on stage at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival dressed as King Lear.

DH phoned from the arena and said the place is a madhouse today. There are lots of events planned for today and the weather is perfect for all of the kids playing hockey on the river. Much better than it was on Thursday when we had snow squalls!
