How Many Bid Retractions Are Allowed Before eBay Looks?

I have an interesting situation. And not interesting in a good way. lol I have a bidder who is a seller, a Power Seller no less who has committed the offence of Bid Shielding. She bid 6 separate times to reveal the maximum bid of the other bidders on my item then contacted me several times to cancel her bid.

I don't cancel bids. Maybe that's dum but I don't. I feel it's up to the bidder to be responsible for their actions and bid accordingly. Letting them get away with it only encourages them to do it again. They need to learn to be responsible for their actions. Plus if they really wanted to, they could retract their own darn bid. She knows how. She has 11 on her record. I suspect that if she retracts her bid it will look crystal clear that she is bid shielding so instead she bugs the seller.

Anybody know how many bid retractions are allowed before eBay looks into the account? They sure don't seem to do much about them on their own.

She's a nasty piece of work and is calling me all sorts of names but I haven't done anything wrong here. All I did was put up an item that she messed with.

It's a limited edition eye shadow from Bare Escentuals that the proceeds went to domestic violence. Some women got their knickers in a knot and call anyone that bought to resell a lovely batch of 4 letter word names. In the same vein as mumbies who get PO'd when kids toys like Tickle Me Elmo are sold on eBay. ROFLMAO! Get over yourself. It's called capitalism! Well, this one took it upon herself to mess with my listing by raising the bid to see the other bidders max then bugging me to cancel it. Which by the way, she feels she's entitled to do because I'm so 'greedy'.

I reported her to eBay. The stupid thing ends in a little over 5 hours from now and while I DON'T want to deal with her I don't want to cancel the bid either. I want the money and she committed herself to that bid.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Debbi, stop the dialog with her and let her have enough rope to hang herself. If she is a PS'er she should know better. She is obviously trying to manipulate the system which eBay takes a very dim view of.

If she has a large number of retractions she is likely still flying under the radar unless sellers begin to complain to eBay about her unwarranted retractions. If she already has 11 she may already have warnings on file.

If there are only 5 hours left she is now committed to purchase unless she is outbid. Let it go and see what happens. Of course, if she refuses to pay you know the routine.

You may also want to forward some of her acidic emails to eBay as she is also abusing the EFS.

Good luck,

Thanks Bill!

Yes I stopped emailing her and she should know better but clearly doesn't. The funny thing is I honestly didn't do anything wrong or say anything wrong. I had a few choice 4 letter words with my computer screen though! LOL All I did was point out the rules to her about Bid Retraction and Bid Shielding.

She's reporting me to eBay for being rude. uh huh! Is that a violation now? 😉 ?:| I told her that was great and while she was at it did she let them know she makes invalid bid retractions, commits bid shielding and sells items that a particular VERO member doesn't want sold among other offences? :^O Ok, yes I was a bit cheeky there but it was just once and I stopped.

She contacted me 6/7 times through eBay and twice through her own email. It amazes me that someone with 1600+ feedback has so many misconceptions about eBay. She says eBay tells her it's mandatory for bidders to contact sellers when retracting a bid so she wasn't 'bugging' me. Um....not quite eh! You're not supposed to retract without a valid reason and she never emailed saying she was going to retract. She gave me some lame excuses and wanted me to cancel her bid. There's a big difference there.

Yes I saw she's done this before. One good thing came out of this! I had some bad thoughts running through my head. I'd never do it but it was fun to engage in fantasy for a few minutes. Like starting a new ID to mess with her. hehehe ]:) I then noticed that the bidder on her sample auction is a 0 bidder. I don't know why but my mind went to shill bidding. So I started looking into that ID and I uncovered a shill bidding ring! 😮

She's not involved but the guy that gave her the neg for her bidding practices is. I was shocked and disgusted but there it was. That seller has 2 other IDs that he uses to each bid up the bid of regular bidders then conveniently cancels one of the lower bidders leaving the one that bid just under the regular bidder. Nice huh!

If you search the bidder on her item you'll find the other ID I'm talking about. It's in there in other bids and with cancelled bids. All of which have ever ONLY bid on the one seller's item except for now. I'm guessing she P'd the seller off so much he's going to mess with her listing buuuuut I ain't telling her. 😉

It's been fun today. How's your day going? LOL :^O I'm supposed to be listing things for crying out loud. sheesh

No idea why exactly. The only thing I can think of is because this color recently sold in the $70 range and like I said, some women got upset because they think people who bought it to resell are greedy. Maybe she also wants to know how silly some bidders are and how high they'll go for a rare, sold out, limited edition color.

She even told me that. She feels she had every right to do what she did because of greedy sellers like me. Those were her exact words. Of course she doesn't admit the technical aspects of 'what she did'. Bid to reveal the max bid of others then retract or get the seller to cancel.

Heck that would make ME look bad and p off the other bidders even more than being outbid. I'll look like the bad guy here if I cancel her bid. The other people have already probably moved on to look elsewhere for the color but this one decides she wants to play games.

It's just too silly for words.

i can't believe someone so immature, petty and rule breaking actually sells on ebay-what a scary thought...i mean get a life man!!! i can't think of any other motivation than what you said (just to see how high others bid), and then turns around and wants to cancel after she gets her curiosity satisfied...and a repetitive behaviour no less...i wouldn't cancel...i'd stick to my guns...it serves her right for being such a twit..

She actually sells similar products, doesn't she? Is she trying to figure out what the market prices are? If so she needs to learn about Marketplace Research.

It sure is! I was amazed at that. Some people have nothing better to do than mess with other people. I totally get if they're selling stuff that is against the rules or illegal or ripping someone off in say shipping costs or the infamous Xbox box but this?? Gimme a break! Report the listing and move on. Or grumble about it and move on but to mess with it is a whole other ball of wax.

I got emails at Christmas from angry mothers telling me I'm awful for buying Tickle Me Elmos to resell. Sorry but if I see they're selling for big bucks and I find myself in front of a shelf full of them, guess what? I'm buying them!! If someone wants to pay me $100 for it I'll be only too happy to mail it to them. LOL

Did you read the shill bidding ring I uncovered? That freaked me out. The neg she has in her profile is from a seller that is shill bidding. One of his shill IDs has a bid on her listing. That's how I found them out. Check out the ID's shanbeihai, 2006keqin. Quite the interesting discovery. ;)

Yes she does sell similar products. I don't know if she's trying to figure out the market though but she does need to learn a lot yes. LOL I don't think she's doing research though.

"Leave us alone...and YES you ARE rude...ebay has been notified...I have every right to do what I did you are a poor seller with many negative feedback...point your dirty little finger elsewhere. Any further contact from you will be happily sent to an Ebay support team
Have a nice day!"

"Get off our back!!! You have said enough and this email will be saved too! Ebay knows full well why we retracted bids. It was with Ebays knowledge via phone call my husband made and sellers like YOU that are greedy. When you receive your precious money we dearly hope you choke on it. If you continue like this I will have no problem deleted the bid myself. No maximum here. Now leave us alone!"

She doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense and clearly doesn't understand many of the rules. Now Bill, you might know more than I. Does eBay retract bids over the phone? Somehow, I don't think so. LOL Hey, I could well be wrong though. :-p

Does eBay retract bids over the phone???

I think I might have responded "Please share that phone number as it is relatively unheard of that you can talk on the phone to any warm body at eBay."

Naw Debbi, she's blowin' smoke (or else she's been inhaling).

LOL!!

Oh ya, she's inhaling alright and it's probably not even the good Canadian stuff. 😉 😛 She's full of poop!

I'm chewing my fingernails though. A little over an hour to go. I know she's going to neg me. She did it with that other seller. She negged him first for nothing and then he negged her. :_|

If you don't like my product or if I can't resolve a situation to your satisfaction I can deal with that but a neg for nothing! Sheesh. I'm human and have screwed up before. I sent someone the wrong item and it turned out I didn't have the item I was supposed to send. They offered to send back what I sent to them. Heck no! I apologized, told him to keep it and refunded. This one's just a troublemaker. 😞

It's funny that she says I'm greedy. She wanted to charge someone $23.50 to ship a bunch of makeup that with FREE packaging weighed less than a pound. HAHAHA that's rich! 😛 It would cost her all of $4.05 plus Delivery Confirmation IF she bought it.

geez...i feel sorry for you debbi-let me know if you want me to bid on your item to get her out of your hair...but i wouldn't have to actually buy it then, would i? ?:| you could just second chance offer to the the bidder before her?

Debbi your feedback is great - you have little to worry about from a fruit case. If she does neg, just be certain to pull her contact info to see if it is valid,

Kat, you're not suggesting that you will shill bid on Debbi's behalf, are you?

That's sweet Kat but no it's not right to do that. I appreciate the supportive thought though. :-x I'm not going to get in trouble for her and I certainly don't want anyone else to!! She's not worth it.

Thanks Bill. I just hate to see an undeserved neg on here. I've got 5 windows open to cancel bids all filled in ready to hit submit. She's gonna be peed right off but I'm going to say she manipulated the bidding to reveal the max bids of other bidders then bugged me to cancel. I hope it'll work and I hope no one else bids on it.

It'll be valid I'm sure and besides, eBay will give her time to correct it so any neg she gives will stay. And she will neg. Her 4th and 5th emails told me I have to live with my choices for not cancelling her bids. LOL Isn't eBay fun sometimes? :^O

Yes, loads of fun. Debbi, I wouldn't hesitate to pass her emails along to eBay. She is obviously manipulating the system and got caught this time. She will continue this carp until eBay puts a stop to it.

Anyway it goes, let us know how it turns out.

Crisis averted. Some poor soul came along and bid it up to $41.25 which was over the troublemakers max bid. Whew!!

It's too bad eBay doesn't let us know the result of their investigations. I'd love to know what they think of her bidding manipulation. The shill bidders will be easy to see, they'll be NARU'd.

I wonder if I should have put this in the day in the life thread? hmmm.... :^O

wow, that is a big phewww!! i never thought that far ahead that i'd be 'shill bidding'...it was an instant quick thought to prevent you from having to get a negetive from doing absolutely nothing, and not having to deal with a nutjob anymore. anyways, glad it worked out, and i hope they do the right thing and come down on her-she's quite nasty!

I know Kat and I appreciate the kind thought. It's a violation but I understand your intentions were only for the good, not the bad and I thank you for them. 🙂 I wouldn't have let you do that though. I'd whine and complain and rant but I'd deal with it and I certainly wouldn't want anyone in trouble for her actions.

I had my windows open and all filled in ready to hit submit to cancel all the bids. I had another window open and kept hitting refresh when a couple minutes left the bid went up. I was waiting till maybe 15 seconds or so were left before I cancelled the bids.

She's a real piece of something alright! 😉 :^O

Glad it worked out Debbi. I know I don't have to tell you but I'm mentioning it for the benefit of some of the newer PS'ers - now is the right time to update your blocked bidder list.
