How To Cancel An Order

So a buyer purchased something twice by mistake what is the proper way to add ONE back to the stock.  They paid for the one they want already.

I just want to make sure that I am doing this correctly.

Thank you!!

Bought AND paid? If so, refund. Then do the UID where you select mutual cancelation. That way you get your fees back. When I refund anyone, it then shows as waiting for payment. One of the options is "relist". I relist, but, it stays there and then I have to archive it.

Do you mean to add one back to your listing? Revise listing, change the number available.

How To Cancel An Order

If the buyer committed to buy two, but only paid for one, then one item will still be shown as unpaid (check your seller summary page for sold/unpaid items).

You can send a cancellation request to the buyer to get that unpaid item "off the books", otherwise it will sit on your and the buyer's record for some time until the transaction expires.  If you choose not to cancel it, your buyer will continue to get payment reminders from eBay.

Keep in mind that if you request cancellation and the buyer agrees, he/she can still leave feedback on that item (yes, even if it was never wanted, and both of you agree to cancel).  This is a bizarre quirk of eBay that they are supposedly going to correct (someday!), but it can make cancellation a difficult choice.  If this buyer seems pleasant or is a repeat customer, I'd request that they cancel to save them the annoyance of payment reminders which might make them irritated enough to leave poor DSRs on the item they did pay for).  You might want to send an email explaining this before you make the formal cancellation request.

In the meantime you can add the unsold item back to available inventory as 'pj' noted.
