How about going against the flow?

I just read a thread that outraged me,  the thread suggested that instead of bringing up issues with recent eBay decisions, we should all sit back and just accept it and move on.

This offends me intellectually and morally.  If people believe change is needed or that a decisions is unfair, then absolutely they should speak out and make their voices heard.  That is the only way change ever comes about or problems ever solved.

Sticking you head in the sand or simply being a good little follower is weak willed and cowardly.  Our opinions matter and we have every right to voice them without being told by the 'cheerleading' crowd that we should stay silent.

So please ignore that other thread and make your voices and concerns heard.

Overwhelmingly agree. The patient is dead, doctor. LOL

Your example is flawed,

You can't compare it to an in store situation because in that instance a buyer is committed to the transaction once they pay. They cant come back and make a false claim and cheat the store out of money the way they can on ebay.

Return fraud (substitutions, missing items, etc) is a very real thing at the retail store level. Whether online or in store you will get shrink unfortunately.

Re: How about going against the flow?

Thats why most stores now demand a receipt and only offer exchanges instead of full out refunds.  And if your argument is that sellers have to accept a degree of "shrink" then why shouldn't buyers have to?

I used to think life was fair, then I discovered retail.

Re: How about going against the flow?

Ok, I get that you think sellers should have accept a degree of loss, I disagree, but thats opinion.

Now my issue is why should that be one sided?  And why should sellers alone have to bear the burden of that problem and the repercussions of it?

Re: How about going against the flow?

The fact that sellers have a hold placed upon them when they are new, prove they are not trusted.  If they were trusted then the hold would not be needed.   That is fact, not opinion.

Yep. Exactly.

Which is why every child should be issued a driver's license and a Mercedes as soon as she turns 16.

</sarcasm>

New sellers are not trusted.

Nor should they be.

Like new drivers, they need to show that they understand the rules of the road and the control of the vehicle and themselves.

The 21 Day Hold, along with restrictions on the number and value of listings are the 365 learner's permit of eBay.

As the new seller gains customer's trust, in part shown by feedback, in part by completing transactions in a timely manner, those restrictions are loosened. Just as a child moves from daylight only driving with a licensed driver in the car, to highway driving, to allowing other teenagers in the car, to a full 'adult' license as she proves herself.

And that too is fact-- tempered by metaphor.

It's is probably worth noting that phoenix is selling in a high fraud category to a demographic which is known to be .... fraught.

Red Lantern looks wicked.

and if he were selling on eBay....  who would want to tangle with him?   A real classy  figure.

eBay is what it is.... and nothing will change eBay..... not even Red Lantern.

As sellers on eBay we learn to go with the flow....  proceed carefully...  increase your presence on eBay with more listings  whether similar to Red Lantern or otherwise.... Get your feedback numbers up.....

Scammers love those new to eBay.......  Show them you know what to do.....

One year from now things will be different.....

Re: How about going against the flow?

And still you guys skirt the issues and go off on tangents because you have no legitimate answer.

If your theory is that new sellers aren't to be trusted, then the same should apply to new buyers.  They are just as likely to scam someone as a new seller is.

And if your going to hold sellers to standards that much higher then buyers, Sellers should be given compensating degrees of protection from being scammed.

Actually Ebay has changed allot over the years and often enough pressure can force corporations to change.

Re: How about going against the flow?

Hopefully it is obvious to you by now that you are not going to get the answer(s) you are looking for on these discussion boards.  I don't see any posts from members eager to join your one-man campaign.  Good luck with your pressure tactics.  Perhaps you should apply them directly to the management at eBay.  You could try an email/fax/letter campaign to the powers-that-be at eBay head office.  No one from eBay reads these Boards.

Re: How about going against the flow?

Is that all or would you like to address something from my post at all?

Perhaps the reason I can't get an answer is because no one can come up with a rebuttal.  Because for some reason, fair protection for sellers on here is looked down on.

You fear that buyers would leave the site in droves if sellers were protected, I am telling you that wouldn't happen, any more then the supposed "rampant scamming" you think would happen if sellers were allowed to get paid before shipping as is the case on many other sites.
