How do I report fraudulent listings?

Why are some sellers posting items such as cell phone microphones at prices of $9,999 US?

They are using Buy It Now, so that means the buyer has to pay $9,999 US immediately!

This is FRAUD! Items like this are NOT worth $10,000 US and should be investigated for money-laundering schemes.

See the following URL for example:

Any advice appreciated.

In this case it looks like an honest mistake by the seller.

Looks like the price should have been,  $99.99 but the seller

entered a comma in the price instead of a period and that

would make it show up as $9,999,99.

Contact the seller and ask him what the actual price is supposed to be.

BTW this would not be classed as Fraud.

Stupidity , maybe.

Fraud would be if he listed at $99.99 and then charged

you $9,999.99 after you won the bid.

Yes, I did consider that, however, there are hundreds of listings like this.

Another one I saw recently, was for an old Casio digital watch that "Sold" for $7,500 US,

then was re-listed and "Sold" for $52 US.

I agree that these can be typos, etc, but what bothers me, is that eBay is not contacting

the seller nor are they answering my emails when this occurs.

BTW, if it's a Buy It Now listing, the buyer HAS to pay $9,999.99 US immediately.

How does he do that?

Thanks for your reply.

Cheers,

If you think you have detected a money-laundering scheme then you should report it to the POLICE.

How do I report fraudulent listings?

I have seen this many times on eBay, where an item is worth few dollars and it's listed for hundreds of dollars.  Here is my take on it:

For sellers who do this as a business, it is very important to keep the listing going where you can see the number of units sold.  Having said that, when a seller is running low on inventory and doesn't want the listing to end when a customer buys the last piece, what they do is increase the price to a level where no one in their right mind will buy it.  This will ensure that the listing stays active until the seller restocks inventory.

I'm not sure about the listing that is being discussed here as I haven't seen it, but my answer is based on many listings that I've come across.
