I sold an electronic item that's bulky and heavy to Calgary. It was sent with expedited parcel + signature confirmation via Paypal shipping. It was mailed on Wednesday afternoon and it was out for delivery at Calgary this morning. According to tracking on CP website, it says "Business closed for the day. Item on hold for second delivery attempt." I'm just wondering how many attempts will CP make before bouncing it back to me? I really hope the buyer's store would be open the next time CP makes delivery attempt because I don't want to pay for the return shipping...
I'm surprised that some businesses are actually closed on Fridays... but well, I looked up the buyer's feedback history, and judging from what that buyer has been buying, it seems they run a medical clinic or something.

Do you mean they'll hang a card outside the buyer's store and ask the buyer to pick up at a local post office/outlet?
Would it be a good idea to message the buyer and tell them that CP had made one delivery attempt this afternoon?

Where I live - if the box will not fit in the PO super box -the postie will not even have it with him and no attempt is made at all - just a notice on the door informing me that I can pick it up at the Post Office.

The parcel notice usually say when they will hold the parcel until the date. I would say around 2 weeks.
Since I live in a small town, we all must go to the post office to pick up our parcels and since I am mobility limited and have to rely on someone to pick them up for me. Since the last 2 weeks all those people who usually pick them up for me, have flu, so I had to call the post office to please to hold them (10 of them) and not to return them and they were willing to hold them more longer for me.
Also you need to contact your buyer to inform that there is a delivery attempt so he/she can be aware of it.
For your information, I never had to pay for the return postage when the parcels were returned to me. Expect that the buyers have to pay for the postages again if they really want them which I have to re-mail them.

I guess I'm sorta lucky. We have super boxes outside too but the postie will make 1 attempt. If it's not registered or just expedited parcel, they'd leave it by the front door. It's only registered ones (from outside Canada) that they'd bring it to a nearby post office to have me to and sign for it.
CP unrelated: I don't like how UPS would leave expensive electronics outside the door... Totally wasn't impressed last time I bought a camera from Amazon and it was just left outside the door.

Whew. That's good to know. And yes, I sent the buyer a message via eBay message. Well, on the expedited parcel shipping label I also wrote the buyer's phone number on there, so hopefully the local post office there will phone him. I did get phone calls before to remind me to pick up parcels for certain locations (they want you to get it ASAP so that they can free up space). Or at least phone me to contact the buyer about it... I put my phone number on there too.

I despise receiving packages via Purolator (or UPS/FedEx). If I'm not home when they deliver they say "sure just come and pick it up at our depot"......yeah I really like driving half an hour plus each way instead of the Post Office which for most people is usually just a short(ish) walk away.
What should i do charge more shipping fees???
Who's idea was it to use Purolator? If it was the buyer than yes I would you should definitely consider asking them to pay for the re-ship.
