I don't understand how would someone pay without paypal?

I was just amending my shipping to exclude spain and I came across this.  Looks like a buyer with loads of feedback has been a ebay buyer/seller for years tried 3 times to purchase something from me and because he didn't have a paypal account it would let him/her buy the item.   I don't understand, other than paying you cash on pick up, how do you have people pay you?

Yes, I do.  Never had a problem so long as the US buyers remember to get the international money order instead of domestic.  I started on ebay when there was no paypal so it doesn't bother me and the buyers who pay this way don't mind waiting for the money order to arrive or the cheque to clear.

I prefer paypal but I'll accept cash, money orders, cheques.  Once I even accepted $20.00 worth of Canadian Tire money

I started about the same time (first sale in 2003) and at that time accepted bid pay, paypal, cheques, cash and money orders.

Now I thought there was something that ebay wanted everyone to use paypal and we couldn't accept other forms of payment.  I may be wrong but when they got married I thought that was the requirement.  Now that they are divorced, that may have changed.

I just find it funny that someone with over 800 feedback doesn't have a paypal account and therefore couldn't purchase from me.

But I would be interested to find out if other sellers on this board, have it set up to accept all forms of payment?

I don't think there are a lot of buyers not using Paypal - the few that want to send a M.O. or cheque usually have a lot of feedback - just don't want to put their bank info on the internet or use paypal.

I don't show on my listings that I accept cheques or M.O. but if they contact me about it, I check their feedback and agree or not.

A buyer can pay with a credit card without having a PayPal account.  It's also possible that they have a PP account but that it isn't linked to their eBay account.  If you have blocked those without PP accounts, then you block those buyers as well.   I never really understood the point of ,o king this without PP.

As I understand the rules it is ok to accept Cheques and MOs if the buyer asks but one cannot say that one will accept these in one's listings.

That's how I understand it.....

Someone will likely find the actual official description somewhere in the terms etc...

Sellers don't have to accept PP but they would then have to set up their own cc merdnsntbaccount as they are required to have a form of electronic payment.

That's right although it doesn't actually say that anywhere.  I did ask Raphael about it a year or two ago and he said that is still true.

So this has got me thinking so I went to help and this is what it says:  I'm going to read a bit more under Learn More.  I find I am constantly learning, which is good.

So I read more and unless I have a merchant credit account, paypal is it.

It's been my understanding that the Restricted list (in North America) are those methods of payment that can be suggested by the buyer but not by the seller.

The North America being because while wire transfers are unusual and very expensive here, in Europe they are cheap and common.

My big question would be how would eBay police the Not Allowed group?

If the buyer sent cash and the seller sent nothing, how would he prove payment to eBay? A good reason for discouraging cash in any case, but I can remember getting the occasional cash payment before BidPay made selling so much easier.

Worst were personal cheques, because you had to wait to get them, wait to clear them and then send. Fortunately, eBay was not as interested in delivery time in those days .....nearly 15 years ago.....

Credit card.  People who use a credit card at the checkout will all be blocked from buying your items.  No offense, but since you have Immediate Payment on your items, blocking those without PayPal accounts isn't very smart, not if you want to sell the most items you can.  If you've got IPR you don't need to block UI abusers either because they can't get your items UNTIL they pay.  Up to you.

That was Van Morrision "Enlightenment".  I see it has no IPR, not that it matters, the buyer couldn't buy it.  It won't likely be a seller because they all have to have PayPal, pretty well. Only a $10 sale, so you didn't lose much.

Be warned.  It is true that you will sell more but also very likely you will have a few more Unpaid Items.  I have NEVER found that to be a real problem, the scenes some describe when a lunatic buys up all your items with fake guest IDs and doesn't pay.  But anything can happen.

That's the trade-off.  You risk Unpaid items when you remove IPR and don't block nonPP accs.   On the other hand you get a lot more sales.  When I was new I blocked EVERYTHING and sold nothing.  You decide.
