I don't understand this.

Had a buyer with 1 feedback purchase a couple of books this morning. I left feedback, now she has 2. A few minutes ago I had another book sale, with the same name, but different user ID, same address, 0 feedback.

The ID's are a mix of numbers and random letters, but that is not unusual I guess. I don't understand why one new buyer would have 2 accounts already. Both opened today.

The only one with an answer to that question would be the buyer. Possibly one account was opened and the user name was changed.  Confusion over the change... open another account...

Ask the buyer.

PS - Take a look at other purchases or bids by both users.

There was only one other purchase apart from mine Pierre, the first one on the first account, no bids. I guess I will just ask, but I don't want to appear rude and question why they needed to open 2 accounts.

These ids with gibberish are the automagically created ids for buyers. I think they find something they like, it tells them they have to sign up in ebay before the can, they do whatever starts that, it generates this new id for them and they buy.

I have had a buyer buy 3 things from me now over the course of a month, each time it is a new ID and I'm the only one they've purchased from each time, so they don't understand that they can have a permanent ebay id..... yours might be the same....

Thanks ricarmic, it has never happened to me before, so I was not sure what was happening. I told the buyer I hadn't realized right away that she was the buyer who purchased from me earlier in the day, maybe if she replies I can explain what you said.

I agree with ricarmic. I had a buyer not too long ago with a seemingly 'odd' username filled with random letters/numbers. Later found out they purchased the item via a 'guest account', as they stated it.

I assume your buyer simply came across your listing and wanted to purchase without having to sign up with an eBay account. Perhaps after looking around a bit more he came across another item he was interested in and simply did the same thing, with eBay creating a second guest account ID.

Yes, I think you are correct. Obviously a new buyer and they must have signed in as a guest.

I just worked out that in the last 3 weeks, almost 40% of my buyers had 0 or 1 feedback. Most had the jumbled letter passwords.

A lot of people had problems changing their passwords after the security breach so they may have started new accounts. I believe that the jumbled letters are the id that ebay automatically give out to new users.

Yes, any sale is good these days. I don't have a problem selling to 0 feedback buyers, but it has been unusual to have so many in a short time. I hadn't thought about the problem some people had when trying to change their passwords.

I can attest to the fact that getting an ID isn't quite as simple (or clear, really) as it used to be.

I opened a new ID a few weeks ago and from the main eBay page was directed to a page where an automatic "gibberish" ID was assigned -- all of a sudden I had an ID I didn't want.  I found I couldn't "customize" it, and actually had to go through the whole ridiculous process of setting up the assigned ID, then go back in and change the ID subsequently.

I also had a difficult time when I went back to sign into that ID after the cyber attack.  It was quite a roundabout and rather stupid process getting my password re-set, not as simple as it was to re-set my main ID password immediately after the attack.  Had I been a newcomer, I probably would have given up and just opted for a new/guest ID.

I expect 'pj' may be right, in that a lot of buyers got fed up trying to get through the maze to change their passwords, and came back as new users (with another ID).  Some may also have gotten confused or frustrated during the new ID set-up and just decided to take whatever ID eBay doled out.

Just what we need -- eBay making it less than easy and quick for users to come back.
