I'm going to print a label for and paypal shipping is showing that there is $100 insurance for Small Packets.
I'm assuming that if it's showing that way on my screen it's still valid?
Does anyone know for sure because if it's not I'll use Light packets instead.

There's no insurance on small packet. That ended on Jan 14. Do not believe anything you see on Paypal shipping.
01-30-2013 12:22 PM
That's what I thought as well, and so I decided to use light packet with third party insurance............ but shipsurance no longer insures light packet.
They do insure small packet.
Now, I'm going to cancel that label and then use small packet with shipsurance.
I know it's waste of $ but I just don't have the heart to ship without insurance.
01-30-2013 12:30 PM
Never mind............. maybe they do insure light packet. They used to separate US and International shipments and now it looks like they grouped the together so it looked like they didn't insure light packet.......
01-30-2013 02:32 PM
You will also pay 25 cents more for insurance to the US as they combined US and international but used the international rate.

You opened the door. Insurance is the biggest sucker game Cdns fall for.

No insurance
The new tracked Package Service will cover this and is double the money$7.38) with venture 1
Sm. and light Packet carry no insurance, claims, or tracking as of Jan 14

zoom I know that you think you are right but.....until you actually go to the post office and pay $7.38 for this "new tracked packet" service (within Canada according to you), please do not start telling people that there is such a rate.
I realize that you say your post office told you $7.38 was an option for a bubble envelope you were going to send within Ontario but that was probably the price for expedited which does have tracking and insurance. The clerk may have been confused as there is just no other evidence that a tracked packet service will be available in Canada. If you can go purchase that service and/or show me the info online (at $7.38 anywhere in Canada) then I will gladly admit that I'm wrong but until then it's best not to let others think that there will be a tracked packet rate in Canada.

Actually I still use Small Packet with insurance up to today and I printed the PayPal invoice/statement that shows insurance is included and should those packets are lost or damaged, I will use it to file for a claim.
PayPal Shipping should be updated already. PayPal Shipping already prevented to purchase the small packet surface but allow us to purchase the small packet air with insurance so it should be okay.

There is no insurance on Small Packet through PayPal shipping. The PayPal site has not been updated to remove the insurance.
Here is an announcement from PayPal stating there is no insurance using small packet.
https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/News-Announcements/Important-changes-coming-for-Canada-Post-Shipping-Services/td-p/603096
here is a copy of the relevant information
This means, as of January 14, 2013:
The USA Surface Small Packets service for PayPal customers who use the print shipping label feature will be retired and no longer available. PayPal customers who attempt to access USA Surface Small Packets service on the PayPal website may experience an error message until this service is removed from the online menu on January 24rd.
PayPal customers will no longer receive any liability coverage on packages sent with USA Air Small Packets, International Air Small Packets and International Surface Small Packets.
Complementary insurance coverage on Regular Parcel service will no longer be offered.

On line paypal shipping shows $100 insurance on expedited. Does anyone know if there is still $100 automatic insurance on expedited?
01-31-2013 07:53 PM
Yes, Expedited Parcel has 100 insurance included. No change.
01-31-2013 07:57 PM
I jumped the gun then............ just went with small packet plus shipsurance instead.
A small outfit (in comparison to ebay) like shipsurance can have it's website up to snuff on time.............. so why not ebay?
I don't begrudge them that price increase they snuck in there by combining international with US shipments one bit.
Now that we'll be using them more, I think it would be really helpful if posters here posted their experiences with shipsurance because I'd like to know how well they come through should there be a claim.
The PO really was good that way............... who knows, maybe shipsurance will be just as easy to deal with.

I was just experimenting with sizes and weights. 16 x 16 x 6 cm 200 grams to the USA
small packet $7.80
tracked packet $16.10
Dunno where you get $7.38 from. Come to think of it, $7.38 is really low. The Americans have just upped all their prices to reflect reality as well.
Every year I take a one week break from selling larger items till the Canada Post Rate increase comes into effect. This year I ship an item and the clerk does not tell me there is NO Insurance on package. I learn after the fact plus am told there will be only a slight increase over non-insured Small Packet. Your results indicate more than double the cost, that is not slight. Can you post a link to the webpage you used to test the costs. I have not been able to find one on my own and would like to make a printout to show the lady at my local Post Office. Thank you.

The official Canada Post web site page for calculating postage:
http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/business/findARate?execution=e1s1
As mentioned, it does not show Light Packet when it used to do so. It shows the various services, prices and options available for a parcel.

Just get your packages to the USPS system.
For 16 x 16 x 16 and 200 gram, it only costs less than $3-4 to ship
within US including a tracking number (3-5 day delivery). If you can
put it inside a priority envelop, it costs $5 to most of US (2 day delivery)!
Think about how much you can save if you ship 10 packages
a day or 50 packages a week!
Depending on your location, many sellers are helping each others:
Montreal: montreal books will take your packages to USPS for about $1 per package
Calgary: DYK home plus will take your packages to USPS for about $1 per package
Vancouver: Books to the border will take your packages to USPS for about $1 per package
Toronto: Chat Chi express will take your packages to USPS for about $1 per package
All you have to do is to print your USPS label online at home. These sellers will help you!
Hope this helps
