Hi Monique,

Thanks for the information. I do have a US address in place so that is not a problem.

Understandable that eBay and PayPal have those policies in place since one owns the other. However, for off eBay sales it might be something to look into.

I appreciate the info!

The 2.5% conversion seem to be the norm now, the big boys must got together for beers and decided it was a good (brew) percentage.

That is NOT the case not that long ago, i have the cibc visa for years and they have been charging 1% conversion for the longest times; and i thought i was the only one who discovered the 1% discrepancies.

Tea is right this time, they raised the margin by 150% and give you folks a quarter back and many of you turn gracious, LOL.

Btw, quarters does not add up; my 12.5 % final fee on store items plus 3.5% paypal fees (for non-canada transaction) plus canada post's high rate ADDS UP 😞

These three amigos (ebay, paypal, canada post)all posted record after record profits often at the expense of sellers like us.

One thing that they have in common is a monopoly in the marketplace.

While I appreciate the few cents saved here and there- where it really matters is at the upper tier.

Then again, if I were exchanging US$125,000+ at a time- I'd be jumping for joy about the ON HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE PLUS THOUSAND DOLLARS !!!!!
I don't think at this point the few pennies would matter- WITH THAT MUCH MONEY!

Yeah- the rich get richer- and the rest of us barely get enough savings for a coffee.
That's life.

I don't really get this attitude. PayPal has the lowest rates and they made them even lower and easier to deal with buyers who don't understand "single payment on multiple item purchase". Many sellers here are trading sub-$20 items, where the fixed transaction fee is more than proportional. Even Lina and marcopoloca are trading these types of items.

$15 sale -> old PP fee $0.55 + $0.44 -> 6.57%

$15 sale -> new PP fee $0.29 + $0.44 -> 4.87%

Looks like new fee is 1.7% lower equivalent to 25.9% discount on PP fees (on $15 item).

dipmicro- I appreciate the savings- STARBUCKS Coffee prices just eat up these savings.

It's just that at the higher levels- I'd be happy with ALL THAT MONEY- and the fees would be of little concern!

If we were doing $125,000+ what would there be to complain about?

I don't really get this attitude.

I get it.....it goes like this....

My business is not going as well as I'd like and it must be the fault of eBay and/or PayPal and/or Canada Post and/or bad buyers. It can't be my fault as I'm just perfect!

just because they are similar to what other vendors are charging does not make it right.

Visa used to charge 1% for currency conversion, not 2.5% so paypal make its fees similar to or a bit less and you said that's ok?

there's a class action suit against visa for exactly that type of additional fee transaction.

that .44 cents is an additional fee to start off, similar to the big 3 cell co. pricing tactics - "our monthly fee is only $22.50 but you'll have to pay an additional licensing fee of 6.95 a month", or on monthly fee charged by roger's home phone and other long distance company, "we have the lower rate, but in the fine print they charged a monthly service fee of $4.95"

25.9% of savings equal to 1 quarter? LOL

i meant that the 29cents is an additional fee.

and thanks for pointing out, our actual fee is not 2.9% but 4.87%!

recped- I am not sure who's attitude you are referring to.

As for us- our sales for the first 10 days of the month have EXCEEDED every MONTHLY SALES TOTAL- but one- for the past six months!

If sales keep up at this pace- I will be shutting down toward the end of the month- so we either a) don't exceed 100+ sales- or b) break the US$1000 sales threshold.

We bacame a POWER SELLER by accident-
ONE SINGLE ITEM- over the 300 item requirement.

ONE LAST MINUTE SALE- of TWO SINGLE ITEMS- and we get to be lumped into this POWER SELLER roller-coaster.

We don't want to be POWER SELLERS.
What's so sad is so many sellers here who want to be POWER SELLERS- simply WILL NOT be come July. The numbers- unless things change again spell certain disaster for so many.

It's going to be awfully lonely around here.......

Recped: your feedback is incredible! Over 10,00 with no negatives, what's your secret 🙂

do you give buyers an automatic feedback once payment is made? I am thinking may be that's the strategy we have to made giving the new policy.

You received 2 neutrals and you are down to 99.8%, man that's not right with the new feedback system.

I do believe that the market the person has chosen to cater to on eBay determines (much) what sort of feedback you get.

Recped seems to be catering to collectors of LPs, probably a more mature demographic than most. (Mature in action, not necessarily in age).

My chosen demographic tends to be 'gamers', many of which are still quite 'immature'. This does make it much more difficult to maintain a feedback rating. In addition (and I don't know about recped), many of my customers are international, and shipping times get exponentially higher and the language barrier does make it hard sometimes to communicate about 'issues'. I believe this also disfavourably influences feedback ratings.

The entire eBay community does not sell to the same 'feedback maturity'... and this is one of my main problems with the 'new feedback/dsr/best match' system.

Hey recepd -- your shipping time DSR dropped to 4.6 from 4.8 -- did you have a bad buyer?

I guess you don't qualify for the fee reduction now either, for being a 'top eBayer'. Sucks.

WOW I'm stoked that Paypal is lowering their fees. I sell low end items and while $0.25 isn't a lot to some to many of us it is wonderful. Paypal is finally hearing that the fees for sellers like me was too much. As for the conversion rate I think it is pretty good as well. Anything done in the banking system has a conversion fee and Paypal's is the norm. When you use a company for financial reasons expect that they will bill you fees. After all they are in business too. I work for American Express US and they charge 2%. So for Paypal Canada to be at 2.5% I think that is reasonable.

Recped- I am I the only one here who notices (way too much spare time) that you DO NOT post that you accept PAYPAL in your auction's eBay templated/pre-formatted areas; and only peripherally mention PayPal in the auction's description: "PAYMENT METHODS: We accept Visa & MasterCard (direct), Money Orders (virtually any kind), low cost bank transfers via Moneybookers.com, PayPal."

So- you are certainly not PayPal preferred, nor would you receive any possible incentive back for using a PayPal Debit Card.

Therefore- how affected are you by any current PayPal actions?
Unless you were to adopt PayPal as your preferred method of payment, if it were favourable- then these PayPal actions may have some impact.

P.S. Though we display the PayPal LOGO- we DO NOT display the PayPal PREFERRED, or any other PayPal puffery.

Ok my objection goes kind of like this.

List item: pay Ebay
Sell an item: pay Ebay
Customer complains: pay Ebay 15% more this month
Receive payment: pay Paypal, which is Ebay
Transfer money: pay Paypal, which is Ebay
Convert currency: pay Paypal, which is Ebay
Print a shipping label, pay a currency conversion rate AGAIN on money you've already paid to receive, to Paypal, which is Ebay
Customer complains: pay a fee to resolve to Paypal, which is Ebay.

How hard is the anger to understand anyway. Enjoy your figgin quarters!!

THE Michael Moore is currently starting work on an Ebay/Paypal documentary. Want to contribute your thoughts to the project?? They are looking for contributions via a website I've found. Email me for the details, I'll gladly forward them.

The way I look at it is if you don't like it get yourself a storefront and then see the costs sky rocket. You'll have to pay fees to accept Visa/Mastercard and your still a little fish. Not to mention you'll be paying rent, utilities, shelving etc. Some of us would have to get dressed and actually kiss the buyers butt in person. They bring their kids that run around and get into everything. I've had a sucessful storefront but was totally stressed all the time. With Ebay I can walk away for a few hours. Make appt that are necessary. I'm not in any way saying that this is easy because it's hard work too. But I don't get as stressed as I used to. I certainly was last week when I realized what my DSR was doing to Best Match. But it has corrected itself and I'm just going to work harder. Also "recped" I owe you a huge apology for blasting you last week. I don't remember the discussion board. You certainly didn't deserve that. I was so frustrated in the negativity and some blaming Ebay & Paypal for every little thing. Thankfully someone else in the discussion stated you normally provide sound advice. I have seen your responses in several discussions and I have to agree. I like your input. I really like that you're not attacking any one in here. I came in here last week hoping to find solace with my peers. I'll say it again if you don't like what is happening and feel you can't work with the policies then find something else. I find it so utterly funny that some of the sellers in here will blast the buyers because they complain about your own listing polices and have seen several times "If you don't agree with my policies don't bid or purchase". So if you don't agree with Ebay & Paypal Policies and Fees dont list.

I don't mind using Ebay, it's just the paying 9 times for it, I object to. When will it bug you, when we are paying 18 times for the same service?
