Hi hlmacdon,

Thanks for asking about the bruis... I mean, what bruises?? 🙂

Item location should always reflect the true location where the item will ship from. Hence, unless a Canadian seller can actually ship from a US address, they shouldn't use calculated shipping when listing items on eBay.com. There is one way to do it: some sellers use services that bring their shipments over the border and inject their shipments directly into the USPS stream, but there are delays that come with that so sellers who do this need to adjust their handling time accordingly (we would consider the item as shipped only once it is in USPS' hands).

Thanks for the response. This is the process which Canadian sellers are using, either self clearing into the US or using forwarding services. If I understand correctly from your reply it doesn't sound like this is an issue with respect to item location as long as sellers are factoring their handling times to avoid late shipment defects. It's somewhat analogous to Asia based accounts using calculated shipping via 3PL fulfillment in the US for their products.

It should be allowed regardless of whether flat rate or calculated is chosen.

Hi ypdc_dennis,

I have just asked the shipping team about this as I wasn't aware that it was this way. I'll update this post when I get an answer.

I've got to admire you and Rodney, for sticking your face into the 40+ page thread you started, as it turned out to be quite a hornets nest. Having to repeat yourselves again and again must of been a pain, due to some of the sellers were not reading the whole thread, so they kept asking the same questions. Kudos to both of you for keeping your cool.

Right now, is a stressful time for most of our fellow sellers, and not having the migration tool ready now, is only adding to the stress level.

Luckily for me, I already have some items on .com, and was going to move a few more there, to balance out the free monthly listings we get. I can't imagine someone with hundreds, or thousands of listings to move, as even with the tool, it will take time to do.

Finally, my question, I understand it will convert the selling and shipping price, but if there is a price in the description, will it will have to be manually done?

Tia.

Hello Tia,

Thanks for the kind words. It's not a big deal for us to do this compared to the stress we are putting on many sellers with this change, so we're happy to do it. Glad to hear it's a bit less stressful for you 🙂

The tool will not touch the description field at all. I'm curious though, why are you putting a price in your description?

I hope not too long. As it stands right now I would have to relist one at a time about 2000 listings to get them from .com to .ca. Not gonna happen. Or I use the tool that will be provided to move all my stuff to .com. Not too crazy about that either as I have 5000 listings and will only have 2500 free listings with my store, barring promos.  Al

Good day.

Busy times, eh? I just want to throw my vote in for a migration tool from .com to .ca. I list on both sites and before the change I'd like to clean up my categories so they are all on one site, in one currency. I get a lot of multiple sales (I sell stamps and my categories are countries) and having a category in two currencies I believe will be inconvenient for customers. Keep up the good work.

Hello Al,

Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your thoughts. We are exploring the possibility to make the migration tool available for this purpose in the future.

I asked this question a few times starting years ago including at least once in the weekly sessions. Nothing ever done about this.

Anything doing with shipping on eBay.ca Canada or PayPal is never changed or fixed it seems for as long as I remember no matter how many times issues are pointed out.

Is local pickup available for eBay.com USA sellers using calculated shipping with USPS? I never see it discussed in the eBay.com USA forums so they do not have the issue???

It's the same on eBay.com, no local pickup on calculated shipping. As I told Dennis, I don't know why and wasn't aware of this. It may be new, I'm really not sure. I have asked the shipping team about it.

Hello Raphael,

no, the views are different, selling manager has a drop down with things like mark shipped, add tracking number etc.  The view on sold without selling manager has all that info including the buyer's zip code/postal code etc right on the main page.

this is all I see in selling manager

151247724615 Cross Stitch Crazy UK Magazine #165 July 2012 Tom Daley, Anniversaries, Panda, B

Tracking number: [Add]

however without it I see this
Buyer Postal code: 75252-3100
Tracking number: [Add]
Watch Count: 0

eBay note: The buyer left you a note about this purchase. You can view it on the order details page.

this ebay note does not show up on my sold page in selling manager, a friend of mine says it does on hers, now if someone could
tell me what I have to do to get it to show up that would be fantastic!  Also it's a plus to see the zip/postal so I know if it's Canadian or not
thanks

I apologize if I was unclear. What I meant to say is, even if you have Selling Manager you can still access your regular My eBay Selling pages. You have access to both, you don't have to unsubscribe from SM in order to be able to get to your My eBay.

It is not new, been going on for as long as I remember. I posted about the issue in these weekly forums here on Feb 27, 2013.

http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Weekly-Chat-Session/February-27th-2013-Weekly-Board-Hour/td-p/66872

I followed up in the next weekly session

http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Weekly-Chat-Session/March-6th-2013-Weekly-Board-Hour/m-p/67404

and someone named raphael ! was posted as acknowledging the problem. See post 23 by rodney.

Now I am not trying to embarrass you by pointing this out. Maybe you are not the same raphael. Just pointing out the issue is not new nor a glitch today.

hi again,

I have been working on that in the improve your listings area where there is a hyperlink to the errors and I'm down from over 1000 to under 100 but it's VERY annoying using this bulk edit, I can't tell you how many times I've had to put in does not apply to variation listings and it then asks for brand/mpn and I put in unbranded, does not apply, then when I submit I get error messages, and it seems to cycle back to the same listings over and over and the same errors.  I guess I'll have to go into all the last ones individually and do it in the actual listings but this is VERY time consuming.  I usually try to list at least 10 new items a day and have only been able to do 10 all week...

Would you mind sending me a few item numbers so I can try doing this from your account? This sounds like a bug.

Please read this post and give us a definitive answer when this issue will be dealt with and defects removed for same.

http://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Beware-Everybody-Items-Reappearing-in-Unsold-Items-List/m-p/253...

I'm sorry but I cannot discuss details about a specific user's account on a public forum.

I just want a generic answer instead of Ebay denying it and defects being issued.

It has nothing to do with a specific user.

Why do you and Ebay refuse to acknowledge this issue and just feed us a bunch of malarky about it.

Dutchman,

I don't have enough to comment on. This is a specific user with a specific problem. Before I can tell you anything about this, I'd have to see it happen and obviously I don't have enough data for this. CS is perfectly apt to handle such bug reports and that's where this should be directed.

Unless of course you have had this problem yourself and are able to show it to me, in which case I'll gladly take a look.

"How was your Easter?"

Pretty quiet around here.  We had seen the kids and grandkids the previous week.

So I had time to answer a few questions on several threads regarding the recently announced change of policy making eBay.ca a single currency site like all other eBay sites.  It kept me busy for several hours each day.

On a personal note, I was and am still amazed at the misinformation out there among Canadian sellers. So many do not understand how sites, currency, store, listings, tax (es) etc... all fit together.

Also surprising is the amount of personal negative feelings expressed against eBay-Canada, its management and staff as if you guys are busy finding ways to ruin their lives and businesses.  Many take this business decision very personally.

So many posters (sellers) miss or refuse to listen to the obvious: the more sales sellers have, the more revenues (and profit) for eBay.  It is to the advantage of eBay to see sellers succeed.

Finally there is a huge credibility gap by so many towards eBay's statement that listing and selling in Canadian dollars will benefit most of them. So many think and really believe they have better results listing/selling in US$. There is no convincing them otherwise.

.... and life does go in.

Hi Pierre,

Thank you very much for the work you've been doing on that thread. It's true there are tons of misconceptions our there but the way I see it, many sellers have a very deep, personal connection with their eBay business. eBay has always been about giving power to anyone so they can run their business and make a living. Whenever we make changes as fundamental as the change we announced last week, for sure we will rub against objection, disbelief and dismissal, even if we know from real data that this will help most sellers, and as you said, even if common sense dictates that we would never do anything that we know would destroy our sellers' businesses.

Forgive me for butting in but, as much as I understand the USD-loyals are upset, they are running roughshod over the whole discussion  thread and breaking virtually posting rule that the community has: personal insults, foul language, and encouraging others to sell and shop outside ebay. These are flagrant no-nos that are never allowed on a regular thread so why are the folks at headquarters letting people behave so improperly? On any other thread, the moderator would have been called in to stamp it all out. Is there no happy middle ground between being allowed to express one's opinion and violating every board rule?

For my part, I had to cut-off notifications on that thread because the depth of ignorance and widespread nonsensical fearmongering was  raising my blood pressure. I spoke where I could but if I had bulletproof underwear and unlimited time, I would have liked to correct each and every misconception. I do not want, however, to draw any more angry ire in my personal direction. I get a clear sense that other sellers would very much like to see a self-professed CAD-user fail just to prove their USD-rules point.

Hi Maureen,

To echo what I told Pierre, thank you for joining the discussion on that other thread. As bad as the posting policy violations may be, sometimes I think it's OK to let people vent off. I too stepped away as I believe we have said everything we could. I think Rodney is still answering some posts on there though, focusing on new questions only.

Hi pocomo. No offence taken with you pointing this out to me. I'm the same Raphael and I had totally forgotten about this (so did Rodney as I asked him about this yesterday). looks like my memory stops at the 2 year mark! 🙂

I have a thread going with the shipping team about this. If anything I'm going to know why things are set up this way.
