Merry Christmas!

Although  I am not religious, I enjoy the social aspects of Christmas.  It is a time for friends; a time for family; and a time to think of others less fortunate than ourselves (although we should help them all year).  I also like many of the traditional Christmas carols, both religious and non-religious.  One of my favorites:

Re: Merry Christmas!

Like puck I am not religious in this sense, but I think the meaning behind the birth of a person who professed love and compassion for your fellow man (and woman) ….deserves celebration.

Just got back from my niece’s home where we were all served rouladen, a German festive dish, along with potatoes and corn and carrots and home made buns and plates of assorted deserts and rum and brandy and ………I’m full !

One of my nephews played Santa and handed out presents to the kids of other family members. He was replacing the usual ‘Santa’, his brother, who is in England teaching but….he still sent an I-Phone video tonight as he sat in Trafalgar Square in London. Times like this, technology is a good thing.

A Very Merry Christmas to everyone and your families.

I also feel this way.  Whether you believe that Christ was the son of god or just an ordinary man around whom a legend has grown, the concept is a great one.  I feel that the Bible may be similar to moralistic fables that were written to teach children right from wrong and that good is better than evil.

As the story is told, Christ helped his fellow man, asking nothing in return.  He triumphed over evil (such as the money changers in the temple).

Whether real or imagined, his life is an example for all of us.  Unfortunately, many Christians have lost the original message.  They are Sunday Christians, going to church, but not practicing their beliefs 24/7.  There are many non-Christians who live a better lifestyle than many Christians.  They do not lie, cheat, steal or in any othe way harm their fellow man.  They go out of their way to help others in need.

If there is a just God, then these people may have a place in heaven before many so-called Christians get the chance.

Re: Merry Christmas!

….same old, same old, even on Christmas.

For the record…..not that I should have to ….but just so I don’t have to deal with this again. Today I vacuumed the whole house, did all the dishes, pots, pans etc, cleaned the bathroom and did two loads of laundry. Then fed all the animals and including cleaning out the snake terrarium. As the ladies cook in the kitchen …..I’ll have my glass of rum …if that’s ok with you….because later I will do all those pots and pans and dishes as well. My wife has never did a load of laundry or done the dishes in 30 years….because I do them better than she does. She…is a better cook than me.

I have but one Christmas present to give….. myself. As soon as I find out where it is.

She lets you think you do them better ... great way to get out of doing things. Do it poorly and praise the other half on how good they do those things ... 🙂

I wish it was that way but the truth is….I do,do, a better job with the laundry and darn proud of it. When I was a kid I helped my grandmother and she taught me…..probably so I would have the right knowledge when I eventually left home. Dishes, well I was a bachelor who didn’t want to see a sink full of dishes, especially if I was inviting a lady over. Vacuuming and sweeping I just enjoy. I find it’s very Zen. Cooking however, I have no patience for and the kitchen was my grandmother’s ‘domain’ which she ruled over. To her, a man didn’t belong in the kitchen. It was just the era she came from. As a bachelor living on my own….my grocery shopping was easy once a week…..7 TV dinners.

But in a marriage, each person has to do their ‘bit’ and she has her areas and I have mine that we’re individually good at.

There is a better way.  WE prepare most of the food the day before, including cooking the turkey.  That way, there is a minimum of work to be done on Christmas day.  Everyone can spend time together and enjoy the holiday.  When it comes time to do dishes, mom and dad sit back with a cocktail and let the kids do the dishes.  It is a pleasant day for all and the workload is shared by all.  (Married 41 years and still speaking to each other).
