Hi all,

not sure how many of you use a border brokerage service BUT I have been informed as of Nov 1, 2004 all my packages to residential addresses in the USA will have to have the customer social security number. I was just wondering if anyone else has ran into this yet???

Regards.

SSN are confidential information which I do not think is a requirement in shipping. Full name, addresses, and phone numbers is what I heard.

Will keep an eye on this thread to make sure.

SSN are confidential

Actually there not . There is nothing that can be done with a SSN on it's own

Yes you are right but shipping information would include name, address, phone number, and your SSN???

Now isnt that a recipe for identity theft? 🙂

I saw that too. I received a large order the other day and just split the order in 2 to keep each order under the 200.00 US mark. I don't have time to deal with customer complaints regarding brokerage etc. I'd rather eat the extra shipping and get on with business. When Electronic shipping tools asks for the customers PH# when I ship xpresspost I just put my own ph#.

Re: NOV 1, 2004 Social Security Numbers needed

It appears as though US CBP has changed the requirement for Social Security Numbers on shipments under $2,000 effective Sept 13th.

I know this may not affect a lot of you, but it makes a difference for me and the courier service that transports my goods to the US.
