I have to admit I am a little bit dissapointed. I send hundreds of Small Packets to the US and International every month and this will cut directly in my small profits.

I really wouldn't mind the increase if there was added value... like tracking for instance.

Does anyone know if they have that in the plans?

Are you sure? US Air Small packet 250-500 was $7.50, will be $7.90

Still appalling increases!

There are alot of other shipping companies to use beside Canada Post. Exemple Spring, Dutch post, etc. Lookup Logistic shipping companies in your area that will ship like Canada Post with better prices.

I use UPS exclusively. I was able to negotiate a large discount off their regular prices. It now costs me less to ship to the U.S. with them than with Canada Post. All my items are a little heavier however.

I tried phoning UPS and FED EX and they said i need a certain number of pkgs sent to get a discount, i wasn't able to meet the criteria. I ship around 50-100 pkgs a month depending on the month of course and their prices were way higher than Canada Post, I will look into Dutch Post and Exemple Spring...never heard of them though, i am in Alberta
thanks

When I signed up with FedEx about 1 1/2 years ago I spoke to a sales rep. and told her that I'm shipping about 30 pkgs. a month. She gave me a 9% discount without any questions. If I increase to 40 pkgs. I'll be knockig on their door for a bigger discount.
I think you should call them back. It probably makes a difference on the person you speak to.

Phone UPS and tell them you want a meeting with a Business Rep. You are not going to get any satisfaction over the phone. A rep will come out to your location, review your items and your past shipping invoices (from CP, etc.) and come back with an offer. There is just no way they aren't going to give you some sort of discount.

Very little difference between surface and air for USA. Might as well just charge the Air Mail price and be done with it.

Just as well they stick with the surface option so I don't have to pay the 25-30% extra for effectively nothing 🙂

Expedited rates have gone up average of 5.something %. They supposedly lowered rates for larger items internationally so I assume that means a higher % then that at the low end.

magicpixiedust,

I don't know the new rates for Expedited USA or Canada. I do that they will increase along with the others on Jan 16.

The worst, in my opinion, is that these increases always come as a surprise. Canada Post only published their letter mail increase amounting to a lousy .01 cent as of Jan 13/06. But the hefty increases, US surface mail being the worst, go un-noticed until the day they become effective. My present listings show the lowest shipping rate as being surface mail, with a rate that is now surprisingly outdated - once again! We lose before the rates even become effective! .70 to .95¢ for every parcel!! Good job CP ...as always!!!

Increase was announced at least 4 months ago, percentage rate of the increase officially announced 4 - 6 weeks ago. Printed sheets with the new prices available at the post office since the beginning of the month.

While I agree that it would be helpful to have the specific information several months in advance, to say you didn't know until the day of the increase is ridiculous especially as the increases don't happen until next week!

If you are in the mailing business you need to stay on top of these things. Especially as there has been an annual January increase for as long as I can remember.

I don't think CP price hikes EVER come as a surprise... every year they even talk about it on the radio!

I was fully aware that there was an increase to come in the new year - but the surprise was how much! Jan. 3 I ask for a new flyer, showing the new rates, in my post office and they had non, zipo; they only confirmed that an increase was coming. If it was some kind of side-kick, pharmacy type, post office I would understand that they don't have the latest info all the time; but I'm talking of a real and official post office with a 4 employee counter service. Same goes for expedited US or Can. rates. I usually make my own excel list with info's I find on the internet.
