New fee structure (store subscriptions) coming March 30, 2010

The rumours circulating over the past year and a half that eBay stores as we knew them would be phased out and replaced by fixed price listings is coming to fruition.

Here's a short cut and paste of what I received in an eBay email:

"The upfront cost of selling on eBay is about to be dramatically reduced with our lowest Insertion Fees ever. I wanted to let you know about this exciting change and how it can help you in particular -- and also give you a heads up about what you need to do to qualify to receive the best rate package for your business.

In short, on March 30, 2010 we are changing the fee structure to provide a range of fee options designed to improve profitability for sellers of all sizes. New standard fees are being simplified and work best for sellers that sell occasionally.

Higher volume sellers like you will want to choose from one of three new Stores subscription packages offering significantly reduced rates. "

So anyhow, thought I'd open this up to discussion...

It was mentioned on the US site that if a seller had a store that they would not be eligible for the 100 free auction listings each month.

Something to think about.

You're right, I didn't realize that. That's interesting.

Now, correct me if I am wrong but what I am reading is that, if someone only listed/lists in BIN format, there is no real increase in fees.

We only list in BIN. We do have a basic store but every BIN listing comes with the free (included) option of having the listing show in one or two store categories.

This gives (gave us) max. search exposure while still catering to those customers that went directly to our store which, in effect, was only a "miiror" of our listings.

"if someone only listed/lists in BIN format, there is no real increase in fees. "

It depends what you mean by "BIN format".

If you mean all your listings are at "fixed price" (BIN) on core and you are currently paying $0.35 per listing per 30 days, then you and your folks will LOVE the new fee schedule as you will save a lot of money since those fees will drop to $0.20 each or $0.05 each if you upgrade your store to Premium.

However, if you mean you are currently using "inventory store listings" at $0.03 each per 30 days, then you will NOT be so happy as listing fees will increase to $0.05 each and FVF will also increase depending on your selling price.

Re: New fee structure (store subscriptions) coming March 30, 2010

Pierre,

All our listings are "fixed price" for 30 days @ 35 cents/listing.

We have about 220 listings and I'll have to look into store premium pricing to see if it makes sense.

So how many of you actually received an email from eBay about the changes?

I still didn't get one and if I hadn't checked the board I still wouldn't know about them.

I've gone ahead and changed my store subscription to The Premium store. After doing various sample calculations here:

http://pages.ebay.ca/sellerinformation/news/FeeIllustrator2010.html

I felt it was best to upgrade to that level. It would keep my fees between 14-16% for the most part. Mind you....that's high, but that's the nature of the product that I sell and there's no changing that!

There's a lot of information to absorb, and I'm sure that by the time April rolls around....I will have done so!

For now....I'm off to Yorkton with our three daughters until Saturday night. Our youngest daughter, Emi (7), is competing at provincials in FreeSkate. Should be a fun time for all of us!

Have a good one!

Changes are great in my opinion, especially for low price sellers. They can actually do something with ebay stores with these changes, no one ever used the store listings because they would be shown after 500 fixed price listing and had problems showing on .com / other sites, if they were seen at all. Top rated is pretty easy to get, and will allow most people to get 20% discount without that annoying 15-20% chance each month ( I mean come on, since when was 4.88 not considered a 4.9?)

I'll also be happy to get featured plus here in canada, kind of stupid you have to be a top rated seller when the system isn't in place. The 100 listing limit doesn't seem great to me, would prefer if it increased with powerseller status or store status.

Overall, I think their just trying to improve profit by selling more ebay store subscriptions and having 0.00 instertion fees for under 0.99 is only going to increase overall sales on ebay in my opinion. Adding high shipping prices would just be too risky because of chance of getting 1's for shipping price & losing TRS.

Also they seem to be switching paypal claims for ebay from paypal to ebay... weird but okay I hope they get rid of all the paypal claims, would probably help their sales anyways as this would stop people from going around ebay on sales + sellers would love to get scammed less.

Hi Judy,

Most certainly I'll keep you posted on how Emi does. Her coach has told me that she will be the youngest one in her division that has 66 competitors. Not only that...she'll probably only be 1/2 their size since she's our little shrimp!

I wish the weather was warmer, but at least the snowfall from last weekend is under control.

Keep well! I'll be in touch!

I did, from eBay.com

I also subscribe to the daily announcement service on eBay.com to make sure I do not miss anythingimportant. eBay.ca does not offer such service.

I got one within my eBay message.

I've done some calculation and it will cost me about 20$ more per month with the new fee structure. My most popular items were already in Fix price (about 100). My slow movers were in store items (about 230). We'll wait and see if the 20$ will result in more sells.

Come to my store

Re: New fee structure (store subscriptions) coming March 30, 2010

Looked into the pricing structure.

Since we only list in the 30-day (35 cent) format, we should save about $30/month.

Upgrading to a premium store makes sense at 227 listings (break even). After that it's gravy.

As we should have about 250 listings when the new store pricing kicks in, we will upgrade to Premium. As the # of our listings grow, we increase our benefit.

Hahahah...maybe the folks at ebay were more than happy to continue receiving your 35 cents/listing business!

You are very welcome though. I'm sure you'll be glad to have things in order before leaving.

I subscribed to the new format yesterday...no fee increase until April.

Same, here, subscribed a couple of days ago and will not be charged for the Premium subscription until April.

The advantage is that we get the benefits now. Really like the automated feedback. We average 20 feedback/day and automation leaves us more time to concentrate on other things.

We, who already were paing full Premium store price, we keep paying it.

Seems to be a trend that companies reward new customers and milk the old loyal ones. 1&1 increased my price for Business hosting to $12 few months ago although they keep selling it for $9.99 to new customers now with free 6 months. They know it's too much trouble to move. Cogeco is doing the same thing. Now eBay. Haha, they must be in trouble to maintain their own weight, it's the age of monkeys :^O
