Have you thought about getting a credit card just for eBay? You don't have to use it if you don't want to. You can fund your PayPal transactions with your bank account if you wish. The only difference is that bank account funded paypal payments to seller's are instant if you have a credit card on file with eBay. No more e cheques.

You can use a prepaid credit card. You can get at store like Visa, Master Card etc. Just register your postal or zip code with card company so your ebay info match your card info. I started that way when I was new buyer and it works great.

I just noticed your are in Canada. Canada Post sells reloadable Visa cards. You just let them know how much you want to add on it. It is reloadable in fractions of 25.00$ so you can put 25$ to 500.00$ approx. and is accepted anywhere they take Visa, Just like a regular Credit Card. No interest because you put money in it then you use.

EBay demands a credit card as a quick way of determining that you do exist, that you have some sort of credit record and that your address is probably correct.

Since these points are covered by the cc company before they will allow you to run up debts, it is a pretty good way to confirm your reliability.

Many prepaid credit cards are not accepted because they do not confirm the holder's credit worthiness.

If you are under 18, have recently been bankrupt, or have a habit of not paying bills, then you will not be able to get a credit card nor will you be able to register with eBay as a member.
