Trudeau is the leader of the federal liberal party. Is he their saviour or will he get slammed and the liberals will be looking for someone to replace him in four years?

I agree; I also don't think this is a partisan issue.
This paragraph from Pierre's link was encouraging (assuming their Senate presence was spent productively!):
"Many senators did not used a single leave day 132 days (as of December) into the parliamentary session. They are Conservatives Diane Bellemare, Claude Carignan, Tobias Enverga, Doug Finley, Beth Marshall, Don Meredith, Thanh Hai Ngo, Judith Seidman and John Wallace; Liberals Catherine Callbeck, Percy Downe, Jim Munson, Pierrette Ringuette and Claudette Tardif; and independent Anne Cools."

"I also don't think this is a partisan issue."
To discuss partisan political issues is OK too.
When it happens I wish we would discuss policies instead of the never ending negativity, attacking individuals of all parties.

I don't think anyone actually hates Trudeau.
My guess is the people who dislike him have not fallen for his con.
Being a good boxer shows that he can think on his feet which is good thing especially if you remember Mr. Dithers.
There are a lot of things that I like about Trudeau, but he has said a lot of really stupid things especially considering how long he has been on the political scene that stops me from giving him my vote.
He has a long way before he can dethrone Harper.

I just watched a commercial by the PCs denigrating Justin Trudeau.
He was dishevelled, goofy, twirling his shirt and saying dumb things............
Man........ What are they thinking???
Show him like that a few more times and he'll have every 18 year old girl (and boy) at the polls.
I know it's politics, but put that next to Harper............
Totally HOT!!

............ and Sophie's been getting a lot of coverage on eTalk.......... where she used to work.
Guess how that cohort is gonna vote? 🙂
........... Don't think they'll be too concerned about a few off the wall comments.

I don't know I really thought that video of him showed a fun loving down to earth side.. he was playing around and raising money for charity ...
I think that video made him look good if you ask me .. it showed he is just a normal down to earth person with a sense of humor and the goodwill to help others..
If the liberals want a good attack add they should show a video of Native americans living conditions well harper cuddles with a panda .
04-20-2013 09:45 AM
........Shows him better than good!
Cant's wait to see it again.

Am I the only one who is bothered by his comments "Quebecers are better than the rest of Canada"?
04-20-2013 02:40 PM
There is an issue with that for sure but any politician who decided to play favorites with Quebec would not be around to long as Quebec Population is not enough to keep any political party at the top ..
I think I am more bother by the fact that harper thinks I can the job I do until I am 67 though LOL...
I hate harper so until Justin screws up there is not many facts about what he can and really will do so I still like him for now ..
04-20-2013 03:19 PM
If Justin gets in you will have to work until you're 70.
What is wrong with having to wait until you're 67 to receive the old age pension?
We live longer and don't work half as hard as our grandparents did.
04-20-2013 03:26 PM
Am I the only one who is bothered by his comments "Quebecers are better than the rest of Canada"?
I can think of 101 ways that comment could have been taken out of context............
I believe he was commenting on his father's views.
Don't make too much of it.
So,no, you're not the only one bothered by it............... but when all is said and done no one will care much about it one way or another.
That video has to be about the dumbest thing the Conservatives could have done.
It's HOT, and everyone but a few old men will love him all the more for it.
04-20-2013 03:44 PM
I can think of 101 ways that comment could have been taken out of context............
I can too but it wasn't. Trudeau talked about how all of Canada's best prime ministers were from Quebec in that interview.
Including Brian Mulroney.
04-20-2013 03:51 PM
The review I read stated the he was telling us what his father's beliefs were........... not his.
The comment was tied in with something about Quebecers tending to be bi-lingual, and that speaking two languages is better than speaking one.
In any case........... in the long run no one will care.
He will be forgiven.
04-20-2013 03:54 PM
Only by those who are fooled by him.
I would give my vote to Mulcare before I would give it to Trudeau.

"If Justin gets in you will have to work until you're 70."
🙂

I think all Politics should have to work to the age of retirement... crazy though because honestly there is not 1 67 mill operator in the 100's I know but most of us cap out in our early 60's due to the crazy hours and harsh enviroment which is why I work so hard right now because I figure I am already at 50% of my life LOL ...
I think I should be able to win the lottery and retire LOL then I might live till my 80's
04-20-2013 05:19 PM
"If Justin gets in you will have to work until you're 70"
It is a funny comment considering the history of Canada Old Age Pension.
The Old Age Security Act came into force under Louis St-Laurent, a Liberal Prime Minister
The age of eligibility dropped gradually from 70 to 65 under Liberal Prime Minister Lester Pearson
Quarterly indexation was started in 1973 under Liberal Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau
The extension of benefits to same-sex common-law partners was implemented in 2000 under Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien
Now, enough of that Liberal Prime Minister history.
In 2012, under the Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the age of eligibility has been increased from 65 to 67 (effective gradually between 2023 and 2029)
Anyone with an open mind and half a brain can see which Party improved Old Age Pensions for Canadian seniors and which Party did not.
To suggest that a Liberal government under the leadership of Justin Trudeau would follow the footstep of the Conservatives is... funny ... and lacks credibility.
Just another conservative scare tactic. It is not working.
The more nonsense these conservatives present, the more Canadians will walk away towards an alternative, any alternative.
It will be 1993 all over again. Anything but a Conservative.

He may not have a choice if he wants to bring in a lot of the social reforms for the rest of Canada that are happening in Quebec.
Look what happened to Bob Rae in Ontario. He had to behave like a fiscal conservative once he realised he couldn't run the Ontario government with the fiscal policies of an NDPer.
He will do what his father did. Tell you what you want to hear and then do what he wants. When confronted he will tell you that "you should know better that to trust a politician".

I think some people's dislike for Trudeau goes deeper and more basic, such as his family and his wealth and even his looks. In other words, basic jealousy. Now they are trying to find justification for that and if Trudeau so much as used the wrong fork during dinner........he would be raked over the coals for it.
Personally I think Justin has most likely a lot to learn as of yet. Is he PM material? Well may not pristine material, but since we live in a country with a very small range of choices politically and a totally messed up system.....he for the moment is better than the NDP and anyone would be better than Harper.
