China has some Awesome Shipping Rates into europe . For example i can ship 15kg for 95.00 with Euro Express 3-4 Day Service .

OR something as simple as 1 coin (about 35 grams) for 1.25 via Hong Kong Post world wide (add extra 1 dollar for Registered) (4-12 day service to Usa (Same as canada post)

Im Moving 80% of my letter / oversized business overseas .

I can get Dhl for as cheap as 12.00 on a 350 Gram Package and SHIP world wide.. WHY would i want terrible canada post .

Besides that i save all my import fee's and handling time , and my workers only cost me 200 bucks per month instead of 2000.00 .

Canada post = awful and not at all competitive I buy 3000.00 (Three thousand dollars worth of stamps each week) and i have to pay the same rates as everyone else and get a 2% loss rate . (Oh heaven forbid i put the wrong postage and am 10cents out and some kill joy from canada post has to return it)

Na Dont think so .

Just another reason why Canada post is OUT TO LUNCH with there rates and common rate increases .

I have gone from 30 thousand per month in postage fee's down to 20000 per month after i pulled 70% of my usa shipments and ship direct with usps ... now gonna be down to a lousy 2-3k per month in postage fee's for canada post (the few domestic packages we process)

Why don't you send this information to Canada Post ?

Just remember that your US customers with orders over $200 will have to pay duty and possibly taxes on the shipment.

I think the UK has a lower level for free entry as well, maybe $60 ( although, except for the US, that won't make a difference).

I agree that the CP rates are completely out of line - for a trading nation, it doesn't make sense for our post office to work against the exporters.

Are you opening a staffed location or you will use a freight forwarder ? If forwarder, which one if I may ask ?

Plus you are going to save 80% on your labor expenses.

Btw. DHL is way worse than CanadaPost. They can parcel from China to Canada in 2 days and then it takes 5 days +4 phone calls to deliver. They routinely mark shipments to me as undeliverable or wrong address, etc. although the address is a 20-floor commercial building with 24/7 receptionist. To top it, DHL Customs Brokerage has recently brokered my circuit boards (tariff chapter 85) as ginger bread (food, tariff chapter 19), while package has been opened, inspected and resealed by DHL brokers.

Google DHL sucks and enjoy the stories.

... buy 3000.00 (Three thousand dollars worth of stamps each week)

Btw. did you try to tell CanadaPost you are planning to withdraw $10k/m business from them ? Maybe they can give you some customized service.

Another option would be going direct via air-cargo and inserting your parcels to mailstream in another country using their shipping tools. RoyalMail has pretty good European rates too and they do offer logistics services too.

Do you think that a buyer's perception of you will change if you are shipping from Asia versus shipping from Canada?

That would be a concern of mine as well.

You might get away with it if you specify Hong Kong instead of China.

They're the same, really, but Hong Kong has a better reputation, I think.

Yeah, I'd also be really careful about DHL - I've heard horror stories about their service in the US before they pulled out last year.

Those stories lead me to wonder about their level of service elsewhere. No doubt they're fine in Germany, where they are based, but I wonder about the other countries.

Dhl Does suck in canada .. But most of my shipments Will be sent Usps (cost is only like 1.00-2.00 more ... I will use Dhl For alot of My European customers or euro Express .

Also Hong Kong Post which for about 1.00 extra i get full tracking .. I can ship a Package that weigh's .150 Grams from China To My Customer With Full tracking for about 2.75 ... and no volumetric crap so it can be over the whole 20 mm garbage they have in place here or if i need to service a 1kg package about 12 bucks via Usps into usa .

I save Canadian workers salary's / Duties of importing / Brokerage fee's / Trucking from Vancouver to me / Sea charges / Warehouse charges and TIME (which is huge each package to get is about a month to 2 months unless i wanna pay thur the nose for air) Thats 2 months lost sales = $$$

I have voiced my concerns with canada post many times.. they give me a 30% discount on rates currently but its not enough for me to stay with them .
They refuse to give me any sorta discounts on stamps always babbling on about how they have larger customers who dont get discounts .

We Will still ship select packages from canada to our customers so our Item location will remain Canada Or Asia .. Overall i dont think people will care if i can offer faster more tractable service with lower prices i think most will be happy . People feel more safe with a main Canadian base / customer service and returns / issues can be addressed from our Canadian location .

We dont use mail forwarding (they are out there). We have our own location within china 1500 sqft warehouse with our own English speaking staff who process packages / Visit other factory's to ensure quality and collect products for me ... also we have a Coin presses / Sewing machines to produce some of our products .

I plan adding a second factory in the spring alot bigger to process scrap cable and transformers (pole Type) (we currently have contracts with Manitoba hydro)

There are many sides of china ... Without strong Quality Control Your dead in the water Nothing worse than getting a boat load of crap thats only 80% functional

I keep hearing that about DHL but one of my suppliers in Ohio uses DHL to ship to me and they've always been awesome.

But then, I don't have a problem with Canada Post either. 😉 I'm not crazy about their rates but I just have to work around that. They seem to be pretty fast the majority of the time.

amero, it sounds like you have everything figured out...I hope it works out well for you.:-)

A lot of the complaints about DHL come from places where they don't have terminals.

They interline with other carriers ( never a good idea) and I've heard of them throwing stuff on lawns, porches, etc.

No doubt they have good points, but the bad points make me cautious.
