Online credit card processing

We are still punching in credit card sales manually into a machine. We get the Retail Council of Canada rates for credit cards, which are quite good (~1.7% CDN$, ~2% US$). Could anyone tell me the best way (lowest rates) to accept credit card payments online in both Canadian and US dollars? Thanks.

Those rates are better than paypal, do you have a website to that address? Also try calling your bank to see if they have any machines that can help you.

I did some research into this a couple of years ago; I was unable to find a merchant account provider who also could provide true online processing of internet sales. Maybe someone reading the board has some updated information - I'd be very interested too.

Depending on who hosts your website (if you have one) some companies offer Shopping Carts that can be built into your website. Check with your hosting provider to see what they offer.

Hi. The rates that I mentioned are for swiping or punching sales into a credit card machine. We use Paymentech for credit card processing. www.chasepaymentech.ca If you're a member of the Retail Council of Canada, you get special rates. It only costs about $300 to join the RCC, but we save thousands on credit card and debit card rates. Nice chatting with you guys.

There's virtually no way to get rates as good as the ones through RCC for online transactions.

About the best deal available that I know of is via Costco.

I'm sure you are aware that the RCC rates technically do not apply to non swiped transactions but I won't tell if you don't.

I also know people who have never renewed the RCC membership but still get the same rates for many years.

Hi. Thanks for the info. I realize that those rates are supposed to apply to swiped transactions only and that I probably won't find rates that low for online transactions. Just trying to find the best solution. I'll take a look at Costco...thanks again.
