From the union's perspective:

What do you think police stings are?
Depends on the police ‘sting’. Some police stings have been thrown out of court. Putting a person for instance an unusual situation that never happens (eg: an obviously devout Muslim who never drinks and the average LCBO worker would never see this), is not a ‘sting’…….it’s a ‘setup’. People are caught off guard and don’t know what to do because they have never faced that situation before. Would a husband cheat on his wife? Well lets get him drunker than a skunk and then introduce a fantastically beautiful woman. That’s a set up because things have been taken out of the normal context of everyday life.
I am more concerned about tobacco being available on almost every corner than alcohol.
A whole different discussion. You can go home and smoke a carton of cigs and all you’re doing is hurting yourself. Go home and drink a 24 of beer or liquor and people beat up their family, or get in a car and kill someone, or get in a fight and kill someone. Which is more dangerous and deserves more immediate concern……booze or cigs?
Alcohol has medicinal value and it isn't fair to make it hard to get because a few have issues with it.
LOL….alcohol’s medical values are so far down on the list of why people buy liquor you would need a microscope to see it. My Irish grandmother use to have one shot of Irish whiskey every day, usually in the evening. She bought one bottle from the liquor store and it did her most of a month. Are you saying that if liquor and beer are not sold in convenience stores or grocery stores that it will affect people’s health? Seriously……..that’s a real stretchhhhhhhhhhhh.
The LCBO makes a profit because the are the distributor and because of the taxes.
And what do you think will happen if it is sold in convenience stores etc? Private enterprise will make more profit and the government will still get their taxes. The profit brought into the government is substantial right now and you want to give it away to private owners…….some of which will be store owners from another country?
I'm still wondering why you want to shut down the LCBOs and Beer Stores. I might be wrong but does it have anything to do with a distaste for unions in general?
Pierre’s link:
Outstanding issues include conversion of part-time jobs to full-time jobs, equal pay for work of equal value, improvements to health and safety and scheduling.
Has anyone got a problem with part time workers wanting full time jobs? Or equal pay for equal work? Or improvements in other areas?
Sounds reasonable to me, but it would be nice to see a more detailed list of what is being asked for and specifically why. Often the devil is in the details.

Most of their profit comes from distribution and not retail.
The retail would be responsible for the cost of selling it to the consumer and would pay taxes on their profits and payroll taxes.
You assume that I dislike unions. I understand and appreciate them in principle but their current application falls short of what they should do and are set up so that union and not the employees benefit from their existance.
I appreciate what they have done in past, but feel they only protect the lazy workers any more.
The problem here is that a few are holding people hostage and the people most affected by a strike having the least influence.
We don't need the LCBO retail any more and we can take the service out of their hands and hand it over to the private sector and the public will be better served.
When was the last time you saw Fed-Ex or UPS go on strike? They occur every once in awhile but are very short lived because the companies and employees know that if they last too long that there may not be anything to go back to.
I'm waiting for Canada Post to go on strike so we can shut them down too and get rid of Canada Post altogether.

I'm a bit confused.........in one breath you say I 'assume' you don't like unions and in the other you affirm my assumption that you don't like them and consider them only protecting lazy workers anymore. I don't know any "lazy" workers but there may be some........do you know of any? But then what is classified as "lazy"? It seems to be a rather broad word to paint for a reason to destroy a union.
I'm waiting for Canada Post to go on strike so we can shut them down too and get rid of Canada Post altogether.
Do they have lazy workers as well?
Before I went into business for myself I worked at many places and there was always someone who could be classified as "lazy", or didn't do as much as others and that applied to not just the workers but the management as well. Frankly, thinking back, I seen a lot more managers who could be considered 'lazy' compared to the workers and yet the management always had a better paid job and less hard physical work and never seemed to be fired because they.........had connections.
I don't think unions are prefect......nothing is perfect.....but for the most part they are better than leaving the lives of workers in the hands of a lot of management (company people), owners and shareholders who for the most part are only interested in the bottom line and making more money while doing the least of the work.
However I sincerely feel that those who want to see the LCBO closed and liquor sold at convenience stores are saying they don't care much about our society. Just look at all the crimes, personal and family losses and general all around heartaches that have been created by alcohol in this world through history and to the present and to say "lets make booze more convenient to get" is not only short sighted but selfish.
