Paypal debit/mastercard

Hi, I have a paypal account on USD, and a paypal debit/mastercard. I want to pay my ebay listing and final value fees through my paypal account.

Here's where I am confussed: -> when I list items on ebay they convert the US listing fee into canadian funds, so how can I keep my listing fees in american dollars so that I can pay in USD from my paypal account?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I can see how to change my credit/debit card information on ebay, but I want to know how to change my billing currency?

Is anyone else using their paypal card to pay for their selling fees?

I list on the US site but becasue my billing currency is canadian, ebay converts everything into canadian dollars. I want ebay to bill me in US dollars so that I can use my paypal card to pay for my sellers fees?

goto the front of Ebay too the live help ..they will walk you through the change that you need

I changed my default billing currency to USD to avoid exchange issues, the only note on that is that this can only be done once a year

You cannot be jumping from USD to Cdn and vicerversa

They actually open another acocunt for you

Anyone who isn't is clearly nuts. This is the only way to go, if you have a PayPal MasterCard.

Select "US Dollars", and you're set. No more losing money to crappy conversion rates. Keeping everything in one currency is the only way to go. Good luck, and enjoy all the extra $$$!

I use my debit card but I use it as the credit card and get 1.5% back. It SURE adds up in savings!!!!

Also, if you've not already done so, make sure you apply for the better rate with Paypal. I forget how much it is, but I remember filing a while back. You have to agree to only accept Paypal as your only online payment method (you can still accept money orders etc.) and there are a couple of other stips (which I forget) but it does save you a bit. Well worth it.

Just found it. There is the basic fee and then a merchant fee which is better. As per the Paypal site:

Maintaining Your Merchant Rate

After qualifying for Merchant Rate pricing, all members are expected to:
Maintain a volume of $1,000.00 USD per month with PayPal. Members may be downgraded to the Standard Rate if their monthly PayPal volume drops below $1,000.00 USD for three consecutive months.


Keep their PayPal account in good standing. Members may be downgraded if their account becomes limited or they have unresolved chargebacks.

You get a .7% lower rate if you qualify for merchant rates (2.2 instead of 2.9). All you have to do is accept PayPal only, and sell $1000 worth of stuff per month. So if you accept a $300 payment from someone, you save two bucks. It's not huge, but there's no reason not to save money when you can. PayPal takes enough already 🙂

I feel like we're going over and over the same things. This discussion came up a little while ago, and we talked about it in a slightly different manner, but covered all the same basic ideas. It also came up (brought up by me) when I first joined the boards a few months ago. I'm sure it also came up at least once before then, as well. If only there was a thread, maybe stuck at the top permanently, that detailed all the important things powersells can do to save money and make life easier. Then again, why would they want us to have easy access to that kind of info? 😛

I recently received my PayPal Debit Card and thought, "Great, now I can pay my eBay fees in US funds and get bonus cash back!"

Here's the problem. I switched my eBay account over from my credit card to my new PayPal card. Every day for the next three days a "charge" from eBay of $1.03 showed up on my PayPal account.

No explanation of the charge when clicking on the description button, no record of the expense in my eBay account, just a steady small stream of funds disappearing for no apparent reason. I quickly switched my account back to my credit card until I can at least get an explanation for these charges.

It was then that I realized I am not protected at all from overcharges this way. At least when they are charging my MasterCard I can call MC and dispute the charge. PayPal is owned by eBay, if they charge me in error who do I turn to as a recourse?

Until I have some reassurance, the cash-back isn't worth it.

Paypal is pre-authorizing these transactions to verify that your card information is entered correctly. These charges get reversed in about a week.
