Precious metals & false advertising

I've recently had some discussions with Asian sellers of silver jewelry. I always ask if it's plate or solid because my skin can't even handle silver plate.

Anyway, I see it all the time: Items that are listed as "solid", "stamped", or "925" silver.  Sometimes all three. For the record, "925" is a marking for SOLID silver that is 92.5% pure.

If you're lucky they'll tell you below in fine print that it's just plated, but often they don't until you ask. Then they simply say that customers prefer it because of how it's priced. If that's the case, why lie?  What can you do about this? Does eBay give a darn about sellers using their site for this kind of deceit?  If they know it's fraud, are they liable for playing a part in it?

We live in a world full of . Sooner or later some of us just have to say "enough!" If we just watch it happen, then we can't complain when it's OUR turn. Grrrr.

There is a report button on every listing. If the listing is deceiving, you can always let ebay know.

Re: Precious metals & false advertising

silver isn't regulated nearly as much as gold in Canada but for the record there's alot of stamped gold that doesn't contain any gold at all being sold on here with no penalty to the seller.

Check the regulations for yourself in Canada  it is perfectly legal to stamp a plated piece .925 as long as some silver of that purity is used in the manufacture. I hear you though not everyone knows that and most assume .925 means solid, at a reputable jeweler's it usually does but it's not law that it has to.
