Private vs Public Feedback

I see some sellers who choose to make their feedback "Private".
What are the advantages of doing so?
I know that I have set up some items with the "best offer" feature, and wish sometimes that the feedback was private for that item, as I should have settled for more $ for that item when it sold, and now once feedback is left, others can see how much was paid for that item, so they set their offer for the same or even lower, using the feedback of the sold item as a bar of what they should pay for that item.
(holy, now that's a run-on sentence...)

And how are some feedbacks showing as private and others are public for the same seller? Can you set certain items so that when purchased, they will only show as one or the other? (Probably a silly question, but just wonderin')

Only buyers can have private feedback.

Sellers cannot...

You can make specific listings private. LINK

I don't know if others feel the same way as I do but unless their items are fairly expensive or of a personal nature, a seller who has a lot of private listings always makes me a bit nervous.

Interesting, thanks for the link. Yeah I know what you mean, sellers who do the private feedback thing make me wonder what they have to hide.

Private vs Public Feedback

I bought a lovely cape the other day and was surprised to find that the item purchased shows as Private in my feedback.

Actually, the word should be "embarrassed" that anyone would think I have something to hide about my occasional purchases.

Perhaps I should leave a Response explaining what I bought.

The seller basically offers clothing, nothing unusual (doesn't even make "feather" on the "feather/chicken " scale of naughty.)

All my sales are private for years, main reason: competition, they don't know my best selling items list...

That's great if it works for you. I'm sure that not everyone feels the same way as I do. 🙂

However, if someone does want to know what you have been selling in the last 30-90 days, they can go to a site like goofbay.
