I just logged into my PayPal account and noticed a link to confirm my bank account with PayPal. My questions are:

1.) Will this give me confirmed or verified status with PayPal?

2.) Or is this another way for PayPal to grab the money should there be a chargeback to my account and the account is empty?

3.) Could this be big brother (government)wanting to make sure they are getting their proper piece of pie?

4.) How is this going to "protect me more"?

Really curious as I have been transfering money from my PayPal account to my bank account with out ever having to confirm this is my bank account. Money has always been deposited when I transfer. Never a problem. Why would I want to put it into someone elses account when it is my money? Not venting here or becoming whacko but when it comes to my money I am protective about it. I will appreciate any kind of response. Thanks!

ame thing for me here... Transfered money many times and now they ask me to verify.... hello... did that many times before... what is the joke?

I have this same message too - but it's for my Canadian account.

It's been a long time, but I seem to remember doing something like this with my US (Waterhouse) account.

Perhaps it's a move towards offering a confirmed address to Canadians?

The "see demo" link on the confirm page ends with this statement: "With a confirmed bank account, you become eligible to use Instant Transfer with that account."

At the moment, this seems to be optional...

Effective October 10, 2003, users will be able to fund their PayPal accounts with a Canadian Dollar-denominated Canadian bank account. This functionality may be enabled by adding and confirming ownership of a bank account. There is no fee to transfer funds into a PayPal account.

So if I dont want to tranfer funds from my bank acoount to my paypal account I dont have to do that?

Cause I already transfered (many times) money from my paypal to my bank account before... so why do they ask me to do that?

Could it be a way for canadian taxes to follow our activities?

Why paypal is asking us to do that since that was working before?

From my understanding, it's not so that you can withdraw to that account, but rather so that you can fund from it. Ie. you could send an echeck drawn on your C$ account.

I know acurael... but if we never transfer money from our banking account to paypal, do we hav to confirm that?

Hope we dont... cause that will probably be a good way for our so adorable Government to know every penny we transfer!
