Seller Won't Let Me Pay

I've requested the cost of shipping five times and the seller responded with a Request to Cancel The Transaction. I do not want to cancel the transaction, I want the item I won honestly and expect the seller to invoice me showing shipping costs that are not over inflated to compensate for the low win. I expect  the cost for 2lbs of buttons shipped from the states to Canada should be somewhere around 20$ since that is what the seller quoted me,  and am fine with that amount even though I think it could be a bit high. Yet, the seller won't send me an invoice. It looks like I haven't or won't pay for my win but I'm quite willing to.

Any ideas on how to proceed?

Help please.

The team name is appropriate, Bombers, since they lost 53-17 to BC.

Have always been my team but last night was just a horrible performance.

They just look lost.

Reminds me of the old PA Announcer joke "To the parents looking for their twelve lost kids, Could you please claim them, they're beating the Bombers 27-0.

Smiley Surprised

lol went from bad seller issues to sports... now there's a twist

I still haven't heard a thing from the seller and don't expect to. What I am interested (vaguely) is seeing what they do with the lot next? I am certain it'll be listed again and sold to someone else, which just isn't right. Too bad ebay can't stop that from happening...

Just want to caution you about something.

EBay has gone Hog Wild handing out Unpaid Item Strikes.

For me again:  I won an item and the seller billed me for shipping which was out of this world.

I tried to tell him, and I thought about paying but when he re-listed the item twice I forgot about it.

It didn't sell and so now he's decided to come back to me and he's filed an unpaid item case against me.

I buy a fair bit and have no strikes, but even so 3 strikes are the same for me as they are for a buyer who buys 3 items and doesn't pay for any of them.

What's wrong with this picture?

I know I can have it removed IF I call, but that takes a lot of time and it's just annoying.

So watch out:  I wouldn't be at all surprised if you get one too.

Thanks for the caution.

Part of the email I received from eBay included the fact that they would watch out for any unpaid item claims and remove them.  I am watching to see that this is done.

I wish there was a button in the resolution area for such instances as this. "Seller failed to complete transaction" or something, which automatically fined them for such behavior.

Ditto............. I wish they had somewhere to contest these strikes as well.

Ever since eBay went Strike Happy it's been a problem.

When I don't pay there's a very good reason for it, just as there was for you.

EBay now hands out strikes out when the buyer is clearly justified in not paying.

It's very annoying and insulting to boot.

I also wanted to point out that when a seller sends a request to cancel, that it's probably best to accept.

Things have changed and a seller can open two cases now and if the buyer refuses the cancellation and doesn't pay, then the seller can open a case for not paying.

I believe that it used to be one or the other.

Yes I know... It's why I opened this thread and contacted EBay. I haven't been hit with an upaid claim yet and doubt I will at this point. Is there a cut off time for filing one in circumstances like this one? Either way, I will hold eBay to removing it should it pop up.

"when a seller sends a request to cancel, that it's probably best to accept."

Allow me to offer a different opinion.

At times, a buyer must take a stand against a "bad" seller.  One cannot live in fear of retaliation. Paranoia has no business on eBay or anywhere else in business.

Do what is right. If it means refusing a cancellation request so the "bad" seller loses its 10% FVF paid to eBay, so be it.

Pierre..........  I have offered the same advice you suggest above here on numerous occasions.

My point is that this advice is no longer in a buyer's best interest as things have changed.

The way it is now:  If a seller sends a request to cancel and the buyer refuses and does not pay (perhaps on the grounds that the seller should be penalized for being a jerk :smileyhappy: (not important why really))..............

Then that could very well come back and hit the buyer in the butt because an unpaid item case may follow.

In fact, there is a lot of incentive now for sellers to open such a case, and sellers such as the ones we're discussing have everything to gain by doing so.

The buyer, on the other hand................. nothing to gain by refusing the calcellation any longer.

This has happened to me twice now.  In fact, on both occasions these sellers re-listed multiple times and when the items didn't sell they came back at me weeks later.

When an unpaid item case is opened, and the buyer does not pay, that's a mandatory strike.  It does not matter what went before.

Yes, the strike can be appealed but the process is tedious and eBay tries very hard to intimidate in these situations.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with paranoia for goodness' sakes.

It has to do with avoiding hassles whenever possible.................. and Trust Me:  Spending a half hour or longer on the phone to clear this stuff up is a hassle.

I'd like to remind you all to keep your interpersonal disputes to yourselves.  If this continues, I might have to lock the thread to prevent further violations.

I'm not sure what the cutoff time is, but I'll guess it's 45 days.    I do know it's a long time.

As far as I know it used to be that a seller could open one case or the other.  Having the ability to open more cases changes things quite a bit.

I don't get many cancellation requests but every one of the three I've turned down recently has come back at me with an Unpaid Item Case...............

When sellers do that buyers are stuck between a rock and a hard place and for sellers who obviously don't give a darn they've caught on very quickly.

EBay does their best to intimidate once you have a strike and it takes time and they never guarantee a removal.

Just sayin":  Denying a request to cancel ain't what it used to be.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, it's a free country, in fact I've learned a lot from many opinions on here. I think most have made me a better seller.  People differ in their opinions. I think that is what makes Canadians special and often times stand apart from all the rest.

No one here is being disrespectful and it's good to hear of other's experiences in order to learn or avoid similar issues.

It's all good. Nothing else has come of this whole mess. The seller is not relisting, nor accepting my requests for shipping. I've decided to let it go and move on. Perhaps a strong learning experience for the seller has come out of this. The only thing I'm out of is buttons, and I can live without buttons. 🙂  Ebay made the effort of contacting me and providing me with the suggestion of removing any claims. I didn't ask for it. So again, I'll hold eBay to their word and will continue on selling.

Again all your opinions and help have made this transaction a whole lot easier. Thanks.

Seller Won't Let Me Pay

In my case, I wasn't offering an opinion per se.

I was pointing out that sellers can now open a second case if the first one is denied.

I also described how denying the request to cancel has been affecting me.

This has always been the way I've proceeded in the past because I believed (and still do) that sellers deserve not to recover eBay fees.

However, the way thing are now:  IF a seller wants to recover fees, then he or she simply has to file an unpaid item dispute if the first request is denied.........................

The seller can't lose, and so denying that initial request is a complete waste if time if a seller decides to recover fees.

Even if the buyer gets the strike removed, the seller still recovers eBay fees.

(This is not an opinion.  It's the way the system is set up.)

It's also a real PITA for the buyer.   Had I not spent hours on the phone I'd have 3 strikes for denying requests to cancel for transactions just like the one (and worse)  described by thebartersdog above.

Ouch!

Thank you Janet and Paul

"People differ in their opinions. I think that is what makes Canadians special and often times stand apart from all the rest. "

You are absolutely correct. Different people with different experience and from different background will look at the same facts yet reach different opinions or conclusions as to how to handle a situation.  There is no black and white, no absolute right or wrong in most instances.  It is, as you have stated, a matter of learning the facts, absorbing different opinions and doing what is most comfortable to you.

Good Luck.

Absolutely Yes.............. and were I to offer an opinion it would be that this is a very BAD fix to the previous problem which allowed buyers to plug in their own shipping costs when sellers did not.

My opinion is that when they fixed that problem the way they did they created a half dozen more.

This is one of them.

Hi everyone,

Wanted to jump in on this thread and confirm the above - yes, this is currently the case, thanks for flagging. Since bringing it to light, we've struck desire to close in on this gap.
