Seller wants a cheque

I was the wiining bid on an auction. Paid for item via paypal. A few minutes later the payment was refunded. Seller now claims his bank was having "issues" with paypal and wants me to pay by cheque. What is the next step? Report to eBay? Negative feedback? No way I am going outside of the agreed payment system.

Seller wants a cheque

Here is the item number:  251465323399

What is the procedure to report him to eBay? What would I classify this as? Seller non-performance? Attempt transaction outside eBay?

Seller wants a cheque

Well did the seller say anything else ... THe seller seems like a good honest seller ....

To be honest I think if there paypal account was screwed they wouldn't be able to sell ...

Ask the seller if they are asking you to do this because paypal has a 21 days hold on there funds because I suspect that is what is going on and asking them still won't change anything but it would atleast clarify why they are asking you do to and would let you know if the guy is scamming or just trying to get his funds...  ...

Either way paypal or Credit card otherwise no wayyyyyyyyy ...... With a credit card you can do a chargeback so yuo are still protected ...

You would report them for trying t do transaction out of ebay but that is your choice I am not sure what I would because the seller seems like an honest seller ..

When checking out your purchased or won items you will see on the right side a little arrow that brings a drop screen up and in there is where you will find the report seller section ...

Seller wants a cheque

Hello 'flopticalcube',

As 'brandeentertainment' says, don't send the cheque.

And it wouldn't be a cheque anyway, it would be an international postal money order.

What I find odd about the listing is that the item is in Avalon, PA, but the seller claims to

only ship to Canada.  An oversight, perhaps?

Anyway, sellers are not supposed to ask for cheques, cash, money orders, bank transfers, etc,

because you will lose all buyer protection if you pay that way.  You can see from the following link

that cheques are only permissible in a very few situations:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html

I also find his story about bank & paypal problems unconvincing because he has managed to successfully

sell items in the past.  They can't all have been paid by cheque or someone would have complained

about him by now.

Well, you've got your money back, so that's a good sign.  If it were me, I would not send any form of

any other payment and never buy from this seller again.

I would send a sweetly worded note sympathizing with his difficulties and then urge him to sort out his

paypal situation and relist.

I would then go to the Customer Support > Customer Support link at the top right of the page, make the call,

and spend a few moments telling an ebay rep about it.

Maybe the guy made an honest mistake and has geniune problems and is just trying to get the item to the

buyer, - - maybe not.

If you are really in a fume about it, the advantage to phoning ebay is that it forces someone to look into

the matter right then and there.  You will know something is being done, even if all you are told is that there's

nothing they can do.

As for leaving a negative, - think very carefully before you do something like that.

Some sellers are shameless scammers, even if they only try to hit you up for a few extra bob for 'postage'.

In this case, you can't actually be sure his story isn't genuine.

He's a fairly new seller and it takes a surprisingly long time for people to thoroughly master ebay sales.

More importantly is that your negative will be a permanent record on your outgoing feedback.

It's up to you, but since you got your money back, well now that's good, isn't it.

In a case like this, if it were me, I'd just leave none.

Obviously you can't leave positive, but maybe save the negs for the truly remorseless thieves.  If you buy

enough over time you'll find there's lots of those.  Smiley Happy

I wish you well with it.

Seller wants a cheque

Seller said he was going to sell locally but would accept a cheque from me. Sounds to me like he didn't get his price (failed or didn't want to set a reserve) so used paypal as an excuse. I will report to eBay as an attempt to sell outside of ebay.

I've had a think about and I'll contact the seller and see if I can work something out through PayPal (maybe pay his listing fees). I think he feels it sold too low and it probably did.

Update:

Seller just does not want to make transaction, which is fine, but PayPal has put a hold my returned funds while it "investigates". What are they investigating? They have given me no further info.
