Selling limits and auctions

Hi all,

I'm new to ebay selling and got some questions regarding selling limits. Right now I'm stuck with $1000/month, what will happen if I sell an item for $1000++ through an auction? Do I have to wait til next month for the funds to be available?

Until you prove your trustworthiness to paypal, you will have to wait 21 days to have your payment funds released to you but that is a separate issue from ebay selling limits.

Your ebay selling limits mean you can only sell that amount in a calendar month. Like, if you're selling something with an opening bid of $999, you can only list that once per month. There is also a numerical limit to the listings you can have. Neither can be exceeded until you are granted a new limit. It takes time.

Like the previous poster says, you will get your money in 21 days.  If the bidding goes over $1000, you will still be paid the full amount (don't forget you will be charged fees so if you sell for $1000 you won't get that much yourself).

You can call eBay and ask for a higher limit if you have an item that goes up, up, up, but you may have to demonstrate your worthiness.  This is the information page about limits (assuming it is valid and we don't need to double-check it against the dotcom version):

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/sellinglimits.html#increasing

According to that page, We may end any listings that place you over your current limit.  You don't want that so call them if you think this might happen to you.

I am wondering HOW you plan to ship your bicycle.  You don't live that far from me and I see $170.00.  You don't offer local pickup.  I am not buying a bike right now but if I would I might want to pay $1.70 in bus fair and ride it home.

You can get paid more quickly than 21 days if you meet certain conditions.

The most important thing you can do to help get your funds more quickly is ship the same day your buyer pays and follow good shipping practices. Based on your shipping method and the shipping information you provide, here's when your funds should be available:

3 days after we can confirm the order was delivered, if you pay for shipping and print labels on PayPal. The PayPal label printing service is free, your tracking information uploads automatically, and you'll get funds to help cover shipping.

3 days after we can confirm the order was delivered, if you ship directly using Canada Postor FedEx and manually enter your tracking information into My eBay.

7 days after your latest estimated delivery date if you don't upload tracking information but you mark the item as shipped in My eBay OR

21 days after the buyer pays, if you don't provide tracking information, mark the item as shipped, or the estimated delivery date can't be calculated.
Please keep in mind that it may take longer to get funds if your buyer reports a problem with the transaction.

Thank you for adding that link and information, pj.

I know that's what it says but this certainly was never my experience in the first four to six months I began selling here. I did meet the criteria established in the first two situations presented but the funds were never released sooner than 21 days, I even called paypal to ask the reason and they just said they wouldn't be. I could not even get postage funds related to ship something, it was all being drawn from my bank account for postage.

Unless things have changed in the past four years, I wouldn't get my hopes up to see any funds sooner than 21 days after payment.

But maybe good things could happen.....

Prior to the lifting of the 21 day freeze on this account (in 2015), there were a couple times I can recall the funds being released earlier. Both times were a few days after confirmed delivery, as stated in the first point in pj's post.

It has changed from what it was originally.  It used to say you could get funds released earlier if you used USPS. It changed to include CP a while ago...At least a year...perhaps 2 years ago.

I do know that it doesn't always work automatically as I've seen .com sellers say that they had to phone PP  to remind them that the item has been delivered.
