Serious Suggestion to PayPal

Hi everyone!
I thought I might share a possible suggestion to PayPal that has been bothering me for quite some time.

I just cannot understand WHY owning an account with PayPal that accepts credit cards (Premier or Business) have to be charged the fee for payments that arent even by credit card!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT IN THE WORLD!? It is as if my merchant account at my physical store would say "Oh, we see here that you have sold this item for $50 and received cash on it - so we'll have to charge you our 3% fee for that one."

What is wrong with PayPal!?!? The fees for these items are just going straight into their accounts and are being used for - wait! what are they being used for again!??!

It just defies logic the way they can charge a merchant fee for a non-credit card transaction.

A majority of the sales are probably through credit card but that doesnt mean I dont want the $3-10 fee for myself on the sales that arent via credit card.

Your input and reflections are appreciated.

Regards,
Daniel

PayPal isnt a bank. It is a profit making business that allows us to get payments from people all over the world. We are paying for convenience in not waiting for money orders or sitting on US checks until they clear etc etc.
There are alternatives and some people simply take money orders and no other outside service.

For me, its more convenient than my having to have a merchant account with Visa and Mastercard and less rsik.

Some sellers on eBay will tell buyers to "add on" a certain amount if they want to pay with PayPal to cover those costs.

It is the biggest rip off with Paypal. You are absolutely right. They are raking in a ton of money when people pay using electronic funds transfer. THat is why the funds in your account are charged first, and they are trying as hard as they can to get people to attach their bank accounts to the Paypal accounts. I always pay with a credit card. If I have money in the account, then I transfer it out first. You should never use the funds in your account anyway. You are relying on Paypal for buyer protection, which pretty much means you have no protection. Always use a credit card so you can do a chargeback if you are ripped off.

That is 100% correct that you always clear your PayPal accounts and when purchasing use a credit card.

Thanks for the tip Rob! That point completely slipped my mind with all the other BS PayPal makes us worry about. As a matter of fact, I just purchased something with pp about 5 weeks ago from funds in my account. Never got the item - no responses and no buyer protection. Oh wait - "the case is being reviewed for 30 days, after which, a decision will be made"
go figure.

No problem Daniel. That 30 days is for Paypal to see where they are going to get their money from. I can give you another very good tip to protect yourself against Paypal, but not in this forum. Paypal reads this. I will e-mail it to you if you are interested.

I agree that it's ridiculous, but it's their perogative to charge whatever they want, in whatever way they want to charge it. I'm just thankful that they didn't raise their prices this month - PayPal is the ONLY thing that didn't go up for me! My product costs me more, the Canadian dollar is way up, Canada Post fees are through the roof, and eBay fees just jumped. I wouldn't be surprised if they're just "staggering" the increases, though... look for a PayPal fee increase this spring. 😞

"Some sellers on eBay will tell buyers to add on a certain amount if they want to pay with PayPal to cover those costs."

Unfortunately, this breaks eBay's rules, is a reportable offense, and can get you warned or NARUd. I noticed a very well known seller (in the same line as me) who was doing this. I reported it, and checked back in a few days to find that he had been banned from eBay. Woops!

Paypal knows if the buyer has to pay, they are finished. It is the reason for their success.
