Ship To Location Exclusion List

Hi all,
As I'm sure most of you are aware, there is a new field that we can fill out now when creating a listing, found in the "Additional Ship To Locations" section. It allows us to create a ship-to location exclusion list for countries that we choose not to ship to.

Has anyone completed this, and I'm wondering which countries or areas should one consider not selling to? I know that when shipping more expensive, larger items to some countries, we are not able to get a signature upon delivery, etc, which is a real concern. Which ones would you recommend not shipping to?

Cheers,
AXE

Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Gold Coast, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, North Korea, Myanmar, Iran for sure.

I'd also consider Yemen, Fiji, Iraq, Israel (maybe). -------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes I agree with those, Surplusdealdude, and from experience, particularly for large or expensive items, I will only ship to locations that will provide a signature upon delivery.

For example, if using Canada Post Xpresspost for deliveries outside of Canada & USA, here are the only destinations that you can get a signature for:

•Argentina •Bahamas •Barbados •Belize •Cayman Islands •Chile •China •Cyprus •Czech Republic •El Salvador •Ethiopia •Finland •France •Germany •GreatBritain •Greece •Grenada •Guyana •Hungary •Iceland •Kenya •Luxembourg •Malaysia •Morocco •NetherlandsAntilles •NewZealand•Norway •Philippines •Poland •Portugal •Saint Lucia •Singapore •Spain •St. Kitts & Nevis •Switzerland •Syria

CanadaPost must be quite behind. I was able to purchase a Registered First Class Mail International from USPS to Italy. Customer requested to avoid postman just drop the parcel under mailbox (thin mailbox slots in Italy). Anyway, the point is, there is signature in Italy. CanadaPost should attend some of world postal union meetups and update their records.

Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Gold Coast, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, North Korea, Myanmar, Iran for sure.

Dude, why not Indonesia? I shipped there.

Thee are Nigerian-type scams that have taken place in Indonesia, which has a problem with Islamist terroritsts. That's the same reason I put Israel on the potential list - some of Hamas' "fund-raising" was coming from Nigerian-type scams, but it seems to have died down now.

I would be reluctant to ship to the Gaza Strip, for instance. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of my best customers are from Israel.

You may want to add Belarus. http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/showdoc/cr/SOR-81-543//20090930/en?page=1

If your goods originate in US, you may want to add Cuba, Rwanda and Syria: http://www.gpo.gov/bis/ear/pdf/746.pdf

Dip, when on CP website, signature is NOT an available option for any oversize packages that have any value. Not sure who is giving you your info. Here is an example of an average shipment from us: 120cm X 52cm X 16cm and 10 KG.

Even with Xpresspost, at 245.41 to Italy, you still cannot get a signature. If that dude claims that it didn't arrive, you are screwed.

Some of my best customers are from Israel.
I would personaly only ship cheap stuff or at the very best, lettermail to Israel. If thats where "some of your best customers are from", well, I aint touchin' that one.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.

And another note - if you're selling electronics overseas, you should check with the Canadian and US Governments - some items are forbidden. I don't think you're allowed to send cellphones to Afghanistan, for instance, because they can be used to trigger IED's. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Read my post again. Registered mail was purchased not from CP but from USPS.

Yes, there is a difference between shipping a guitar and shipping a 2oz bubble mailer. The guitar has little trouble fitting into mailbox so you may want to get that signature. With CP you are SOL.

Dude, why not Indonesia? I shipped there

My sister and family lived in Indonesia for 7 years. We mailed everything to the company for whom my brother-in-law worked so it would actually get there. Mail theft is a big problem there as it is stolen and put on the black market.

They said that payoffs are common even on everyday transactions. Their luggage would be lost every time they landed at the airport but would miraculously appear if you slipped them some money.

I have shipped about 3 items there so far with no problem but they were inexpensive, not that it matters there as they are very very poor or very very rich...no middle class.

And now, of course, Indonesia is dealing with the flooding and earthquakes.

1100 dead so far and another "superstorm" on the way.:_| -------------------------------------------------------------------

So far Italy is fine. One customer told me the problem is that mailslots are thin so postman often leaves package under mailbox, which leads to mail theft. For $11 extra you can have your First Class Mail registered, i.e. postman will need signature.

Another option is 3rd party insurance. USPS does not insure FCI but Endicia will and Endicia insurance is 3x cheaper than USPS. I don't know how successfull the claim process is though

I've had no problems shipping to Italy, but you have to follow the customs requirements exactly ( 3 copies of the commercial invoice).

I've also shipped to Russia with no problems, but I shipped through Canada Post - USPS seems to have problems with Russia ( all the spies get in the way, probably)

Only had 1 shipment to Poland - no problem there. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Inkfrog is cheaper still ( .75 cents International up to $100). I think they use Shipsure.

To answer myself - this shipment turned into claim. Cannot say I have not been warned although the warning came a bit late 😉 Anyway, Indonesia is on the list now.
