Shipping Prices

Just a question - why is shipping so expensive from US to Canada and within Canada. ie: anywhere from $10-$15 dollars to ship a bar of soap. Pricing from Europe/China/Asia is either free or max I found was $6.50. I guess this is why people go for China and free shipping or even the Ukraine and free shipping. I have sold items on ebay and 20lb packages were only $12.00 to ship across Canada.

" 20lb packages were only $12.00 to ship across Canada. "

When was that?  Last century?

Today, to ship a small 20 pound parcel from Montreal to Toronto costs $27.00 (cheapest postal service).

To go across the country - Montreal to Vancouver - would cost $43.96 (cheapest postal service)

To ship from the Maritime provinces or Newfoundland and Labrador ("across Canada") would cost even more.

Shipping out of China is heavily subsidized by the Chinese government so rates cannot be compared.

I have to agree with Pierre that Canada Post prices are much higher than that now. I just checked and it would cost $17.30 to send a small 20 lb package by regular parcel to someone else in the same city that I'm in.

Shipping from U.S. to Canada can be reasonable for lighter packages if the seller is willing to use First Class International. Unfortunately, many U.S sellers insist on using the more expensive USPS Priority or they use ebay's global shipping program.
