Shipping by regular lettermail

I am researching shipping tiny products by lettermail.

What I am interested in is:

* how fast it is, is it faster than Light Packet ?
* how it's sorted and if machines can destroy non-paper content
* does international LM require CN22 if it contains (paper/non-paper) products ?

I intend to use it for super small values (< $5).

Thanks all for responses. I decided not go back to "cheapo" international shipping.

Sounds like the best choice, I don't worry much but I'd be nervous trying to ship your components under 5mm. Even if the contents didn't suffer any damage the perception of some buyers might not be favourable.

Reminds me of a buyer of a 7" single who complained about my shoddy packaging (adding that the record was totally perfect on arrival).

I told him I had sent out over 5,000 singles in the same packaging without a single report of damage but he still insisted the packaging was deficient!

Apparently lettermail is trackable (if you have certain volume)

It's trackable if it's first Class mail, even if you're sending 1 piece. You can get tracking for 14 cents each if you have endicia and buy the postage online.

, it's done in bulk via SCAN sheet (I am not sure what I am talking about, just reproducing what someone told me).

A SCAN sheet is a sheet with all of the consolidated entries for the day's shipments. You can generate them for free (?) if you're using stamps dot com or if you're using the $35/month endicia professional system.

It allows all of the DC numbers to be scanned into the USPS system at once so they all show as having arrived at the Post Office for shipping.
