Hello everyone! For the last few weeks I have been trying to purchase a set of western show reins for a bridle I bought on ebay about a month ago. In the last week and a half I have lost my bid on two different sets of reins because of being out bid in the final seconds. I have heard mention on this discussion forum of some bidders having a automatic sniping system in place to win bids. What is this and why are some people able to use this. Wouldn't that give them an unfair advantage when it comes to bidding and wouldn't ebay frown upon this? Thank-you in advance for any info you could give me.

Hi mpit ..sniping is allowed on ebay whether using software or manually. Sniping is not your problem but rather your max bid. Highest is going to win regardless of when placed. All sniping in the final seconds accomplishes is to shut out other bidders who might have increased a placed bid.
Place a max bid as as close to auctions end as possible , win or lose.

I agree with the other answer. Sniping or just another bidder sitting at the computer for the last few minutes of the listing is not your problem. Bid the highest you are willing to pay and if you end up being out bid then you move on and try again. If someone is willing to pay more or even overpay, there iis nothing you can do. Sniping is not the problem.

Snipers only win if they are the highest bidder.
You could be the first bidder on day one who placed a proxy bid. There may be 10 snipers during the seconds of the auction and if none of them exceed your proxy bid, you win because your bid was the highest.
