So how clueless can some buyers be?

buyer bought one of our widgets on January 7th. our terms of auction are payment in our hands within 21 days MAX. we sent an EOA notice with ALL details including address. a week later they rfequest our address. we reply and copy original email again. a week later (after two weeks from auction close) we send a reminder notice as payment had not been received. the buyer emails back asking for our address to send payment AGAIN. we again reply and copy EOA. a couple of days later we discover they had been NARU'D. we file for a FVF. they then email us AGAIN asking for our address so their friend can send a payment. we reply that 1. we've given them this info THREE TIMES. 2. since they've been NARU'D we've relisted the item and there is no longer any transaction between us so do NOT send payment.
guess what? today (February 4th) we receive an envelope from them postmarked TWO DAYS AFTER we emailed them telling them NOT to send a payment. plus BONUS it 1. does not list what the paymernt is for (I had to figure it out by the guy's name) and 2. it is in EUROS and NOT USD! aargh!! so now I've got to PAY to send this idiot his money back? I'm still shaking my head in disbelief.

Gail, I've done this before with total boneheads who do similar to me...

I've sent them an email advising them that I have received their payment, unfortunately a little too late... their bid has been cancelled and the item relisted... eBay has credited the FVF... I'll happily return their payment however my service charge for doing so is $5 USD payable in cash, money order or certified only... their original payment will not be cashed and held awaiting disposition... after 60 days it will be destroyed... have a nice day!

Some of them go totally balistic (I don't answer their emails), only a couple have paid, most report the money order destroyed and get a refund at their end. More importantly, I'm not wasting more money in stamps and envelopes on someone who has already cost me scads of money. It may seem harsh but I have delusions that I am teaching them a valuable life and business lesson. It also gives me a little satisfaction.

Gail, is there a limit?? I doubt it! Bill, your satisfaction is probably the ONLY positive outcome in your method, but that's at least one positive!

actually...they CAN be dumber. the same guy sent a SECOND cash payment (but this one for only half the cost of item) postmarked two days later (just arrived today!) besides not being able to figure out why he sent the first one -- I really can't fathom the 2nd one. (is it a bribe?) can you say L-O-S-E-R? LOL
