Considering that the package was only shipped Monday PM (no mail service in Canada on weekends) 2 days to the UK ain't bad.

Wish I could send something to Seattle that fast.

You can. It's called Xpresspost or Priority Courier.

The distance that is flown does not matter. It's distance that's driven and number of sorting centres.

My post clerk told me that only California mail flies, rest of US goes by trucks. Not sure if he meant all Canada or just Ontario.

Sometimes the postal system amazes me!

My wife received Xpresspost send Friday morning from Saint Catharines, ON. Google Maps shows total distance to our address: 59.2 km.

That's Xpresspost for you. 4 days, 60km distance - total speed 0.6km/hr.

For comparison - yesterday I got email from customer about mail send Monday night. This is quite usual as my oversized lettermail makes it to most of urban Ontario within single day.

Yes, postal system is amazing. One department provides Fedex speeds for $1.15, another one is a screw-up.

I have experience of this too(not as fast as your parcel, but something like I shipped it on Monday, it arrives on Thursday).
Shipping light packet to UK can be very fast.

But the problem of Canada Post is - Unstable....
Can't really calculate the arrival date.

Why is it faster to ship online rather than taking the packages directly to the Post Office? Am I missing something here?

However, I'm wondering if the mail is getting to its destination faster because it is printed in the format that Canada Post wants. Perhaps it is easier for the scanning/sorting to be done once it hits a *real* post office.

Needless to say...packages are FLYING AND I MEAN FLYING to their destinations!

Mail has been astoundingly fast lately. 3-4 days to the US - wow!

It might have something to to will less mail volume flowing in general due to decreased business in general.

Maybe the go through customs faster because you have to declare where the item was made that there is no need to open the packages that state what exactly is inside?

I didn't see any improvement at all. Need 6 to 7 days for a small "Expedited" USA parcel to New York city (From Ottawa).

Canada Post is great as long as I am not shipping in Canada. The last couple of weeks have been the worst for me, maybe problem from our sorters here.

Susan, I think you're right about using the shipping labels, I've always had good service when I use them. Oh, I also finally got my shipping envelopes from Canada Post finally. Good Old Canada Post sent me these plastic sheaths first, 3 1/2" x 8". They arrived in a busted up box that someone then wrapped a huge plastic bag around it and wrapped it with I'm sure an entire roll of packaging tape. I took it to my local PO and the clerk said, Well, we didn't do too well with that package did we?" LOL

Until last year, we went to Sun Peaks almost every weekend in the winter and, last spring, sold the place.

Great timing it seems! Almost time to get back in. We miss skiing.:_|

Kamloops is a great place. Always an excuse to pig out on sushi. Heather and her hubby's place is the best:-D
