The driver of the VW in the pic was driving and texting and failed to stop at a stop sign.

The motorcycle was travelling at 85 kph and could not stop in time.

The rider and the two VW occupants were all killed instantly.

The car and bike were placed on display at a Motorcycle Fair.

Still feel the need to text and drive.............................

There are too many distractions in vehicles.........phones, texting, CD players (when discs need changing), people eating while driving, uncontrolled children etc etc etc. I believe our accident rates will do nothing but go up and up. There are the vehicle fatalities, but we rarely hear about the fender benders and near misses also due to distractions. Driving a metal bullet down a road is a responsibility, not a privilege.

(I just did a spell check and it shows that the word "texting" does not exist. LOL)

I was in a head-on years ago.

The girl in the oncoming car was trying to light a smoke, swerved right into my lane and smashed into me.

I woke up in the hospital.

It is pretty hard to legislate every possible thing that you should or shouldn't be allowed to do.

But I agree that texting is one of the worst things you can do and one of the most common things you see.

"thugs"? Hardly. Just ordinary people who believe that for that few seconds they can take their eyes off the road because........they think nothing will happen. But it does.

The problem is that people try to do things without being sure they can do it.

The next one could be trying to grab themself an apple out of a grocery bag in the back seat or replace the travel mug in the holder when it's dark. Looking at a GPS or even locate an address on the street. So the real problem IMO isn't the specific activity in itself - it is trying to do that activity while driving, without knowing whether you have the ability to do it safely in possibly unexpected situations.

I posted this item this morning at 10:26 am.

At 11:15, I stopped at a red light a few blocks from home and was almost rear-ended by a woman who was texting.

I was able to avoid the collision because I had seen (jn my mirror) that she kept looking down. I had to stop partly in the cross walk to avoid getting hit. Had there been a cop there, I probably would have been ticketed for stopping in the cross walk - and she would have suffered no consequences.

I've crawled through the window of one car and into the car beside us while both cars were doing 90K. BUT............I wasn't texting! and I never took my eyes off the road.

It is true, if you believe it or not is of little concern.

I spent 50% of my money on alcohol, women, gambling and a lot of fun. The rest I wasted.

I live, some just survive.

I take it you were looking down at the road & not forward. I know i would be with an extra pair of underwear within reaching distance.

New law goes into effect today in Manitoba.

I believe it is still a two hundred dollar fine for a First Offence but there are now two demerits added to the fine.

I Imagine a lot of tickets will be issued today province wide.

I guess the next step is cars that drive themselves.

That is a pretty hard leap for us old timers.

I drove a Ford the other day - one that parks itself.

I hated every second of that automatic parking.

The car did a great job.

But, I am a DRIVER. I will always think - "this car was built

by a person - the automatic controls could malfunction at just

the wrong moment.

I could never trust a vehicle that drove itself - NEVER!

Like you, I just don't trust things that drive themselves.

One question about those self-parking cars.........what happens if just as it is parking itself, a person, maybe a child, runs out behind the vehicle? Does the vehicle keep going or are there some sort of sensors?
