Canadian music legend Stompin' Tom Connors has died at his home in Peterborough, Ont.

Connors died of natural causes at 5 p.m. surrounded by friends and family at the age of 77.

Born Thomas Charles Connors in Saint John, N.B., Connors was famous for songs like The Hockey Song, Sudbury Saturday Night and Bud The Spud.

He was separated from his mother a a young age and raised by foster parents in Skinners Pond, P.E.I.

He moved on, living in orphanages and hitchhiking around while playing in bars, working his way up in the Canadian music and television scene to eventually win six Juno Awards, which he would return to protest the “Americanization of the Canadian Music Industry.”

"It's very rare you can work with someone who's got fans from four to 104," said Brian Edwards, Connor's promoter during his TV years.

A March 13 memorial service is planned in Peterborough -- in the Memorial Centre where the Peterborough Petes of the OHL play.

A man who I personally had great respect for, not just his music, but his integrity.

History will show how much you will be missed.

a note from him posted on his website

"Hello friends, I want all my fans, past, present, or future, to know that without you, there would have not been any Stompin' Tom.

"It was a long hard bumpy road, but this great country kept me inspired with it's beauty, character, and spirit, driving me to keep marching on and devoted to sing about its people and places that make Canada the greatest country in the world.

"I must now pass the torch, to all of you, to help keep the Maple Leaf flying high, and be the Patriot Canada needs now and in the future.

"I humbly thank you all, one last time, for allowing me in your homes, I hope I continue to bring a little bit of cheer into your lives from the work I have done."

The thunder will be Tom STOMPIN'.  Canada Post should recognize this Canadian icon with his image on a stamp, if they have not already.

Stompin' Tom used to "stomp" the living daylights out of many a stage...

So much that .....People stopped asking him to perform

Until ...

Then he brought his own piece of plywood to "stomp".

Stompin' Tom's biography is published in two volumes....  Have sold many copies of the two volumes over the last year

My last copy of the second volume just sold.... wish I had more copies of both volumes to sell.
