Switching billing currency - problems

Switched from CAD to USD billing month ago. The new default USD billing account has been created, and Account Summary allows switch between two accounts.

There was a question on this board somewhere how to pay for previous acct. - click "one time payment", type an amount, click "Pay" then it asks which account you want to pay.

To the problems with currency switching:

Items are billed using the currency they were listed, however, GTC Store and GTC Fixed Price items continue to be relisted and billed in old currency. SM Automation relisted and newly added items are billed in new default currency.

eBay discount is assigned only to new default currency invoice. Billing and PowerSeller support keep referring to each other not wanting to do anything and I am still out of $135 portion of the discount on CAD invoice, while CAD account continues piling up with fees from GTC items.

Happy holidays !

"portion of the discount on CAD invoice:"

The billing currency has nothing top do with the discount earned as a PowerSeller (eBay.ca listings) or Top Rated seller (eBay.com listings)

Discounts are affected by the site where you list, NOT the currency you chose to pay your fees to eBay.

However, when switching, the billing currency for current listings remains what it was while the new billing currency applies to new listings from that point.

The currency used in the listing (Cdn$, US$, €, £, etc...) is immaterial to the billing currency. Fees in whatever currency will be converted to the billing currency chosen by the seller at time of listing.

Thank you for a good point. PowerSeller support and billing agree with you but they are still hesitant to amend the invoice.

Another good point. Unfortunately, it has not been made clear during currency switch. Basically one needs to delete all GTC listings and relist them again under new billing currency.

The information supplied by eBay at time of switching billing currency can be found at this http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/billing-currency.html

Unfortunately, eBay does not put enough emphasis on:
Important: You will need to manually end any eBay Store inventory format items and relist them in the new currency.

and

If you qualify for a PowerSeller discount, and need to change your PowerSeller billing currency, you should change the currency on the first day of the billing cycle to receive the discount in the new currency.

I am sure I seen that link before switch but did not pay enough attention :_|

Ended all GTC listings yesterday (=1187pcs). Within short time got (kind of) response from eBay to my old question regarding discount - it seems when one abruptly ends lots of listings and does not start relisting back shortly, it gets their attention.

I tried to change subscription level of my store from Premium to Basic only to find out I do not qualify to open a store - cannot change. Don't you love these cryptic errors? After some poking I re-entered my credit under new USD billing account again to "re-qualify" and was finally able to change the level.

This (perceivably) simple change of billing currency is driving me nuts.

I changed my billing to U.S. currency in the middle of the month which is when I am invoiced. But I did miss the part about changing my store listings. Will that affect my Powerseller or TRS discount? Is this the only reason this needs to be done is so that I have only one billing account?

Also, I noticed a few days after I changed my billing curency that my discount is "none" because "ebay hasn't figured it out yet." That's never happened before..does anyone know why it would happen?

Discount is calculated only on default currency although they keep charing you in both. This seems to be moot point as they do not directly say that CAD invoice discount is gone, but have run me in loops.

I am myself still out of $135 on the discount and more since CAD invoice kept piling up until I found out about terminating all GTC listings.

Btw. something interesting happened - as I temporarily pulled GTC listings from eBay, many regulars started ordering from our website. No solicitation, I don't even put the ads on the eBay invoices anymore and my website in the messaging signature.

I had the same thing but I got my 20% discount on my new invoice. I still need to delete my store listings (GTC) so I get billed in one currency... Nothing is simple on eBay X-(

Anyone was successfull to get discount on old currency invoice after currency switch ?

I gave it final try. I was postponing this, because I just hate these calls. I spent 55 minutes on the phone getting nowhere. Geraldine put me on 5-10 minute hold about 6 times. Fortunately, I have headset, so I was able to get stuff done while on hold.

Nonetheless, it took first 30 minutes and 3 holds to get to the point when she seemed to understand the issue. She had trouble understanding difference between "eBay account" (a.k.a. user ID) and "billing account" and kept repeating I have two accounts, Canadian did not earn the discount and US account did.

At approx. minute 44 she said: - so if I understand correctly, you want the powerseller discount on your Canadian invoice. - Hurray !!!

At approx. minute 50 she said: - we cannot give you this discount, because it's against the policy.

- Which policy? - I asked. - Can you please show me this policy?

Another 5 minute hold.

- Sorry I cannot show you this policy now, it is not available at this time, I can email it to you.

- Please do.

In my opinion, if she claims she cannot do it because the policy forbids it, she should be able to quote/navigate to that policy, especially when all eBay policies are online. I say it's B.S.

I love eBay. Calling the support is great way to learn customer comms.

I did that a couple of years ago before the advent of DSR's and PS discounts. After reading this I sure am glad that I changed it back then and not now.

I didn't end all of mine at once...only the ones that were due to end within the next day or two. It was a lot easier changing a few at a time and it kept all of my products available for purchase.

I did not get a discount on my Canadian currency account in December and the amount of that invoice was 5 time greater than the US invoice!!!

I terminated all my store listings early in January and listed them back right away. All other listing are on 30 days so they did terminate by themselves.

My amount on Canadian December invoice was also 3x greater.

What seemed like innocent billing amendment to save few cents here and there turned to $150 "loss" - not exactly loss, because I learned not to take this funny discount for granted, but since it was actually earned, feeling is the same as when DSR is high entire month and then during invoice calculation drops 0.01 below discount limit, then immediately come back.

Anyway ... the switch had to be done, before I just did not know it was possible. I think in few months the currency exchange savings offset the "loss".
