I thought about this yesterday when I was looking for Lisa. I was getting impatient wondering if anyone had seen her. I didn't want to post in another thread because it may have been mised, so I had to email her instead. (Which was no problem by the way)

Then I thought...maybe we could have a thread where we could come and ask about someone or just to say something that just doesn't pertain to anything in particular. It's always a bit weird going 'off subject' in someone else's thread.

So, this thread will be for EVERYone and it could be about ANYthing. You don't ever have to use it, but if you need to, great. Doesn't mean you can't make your own thread, it just mimics the ski chalet after a day of skiing. Say what you want - ask what you want - show your pictures - comment on the dot com threads (yuk yuk) A veritable freebie. I hope it will be useful but if it's not - then...$screw you guys - I'm going home! 🙂

Jackie, I seriously doubt it was anything you said or did! (Unless it was because it looked for a while like you were deserting us in favour of the more exciting .com board!) 😮

Tournament? What were you playing? I get the impression that you're fairly athletic so it musta been pretty darn strenuous to leave you stiff! 😉

Hi Everybody,

It's been so long since I have stopped by to say hello and I am ashamed of myself. Luckily I see Malcolm, Karen, Biddy, Glenda and sometimes Dan on the other board but the rest of you, I miss.

I hope you are all well and having great summers. I do know that the weather has been horrible, in different ways, in different places but it's still summer. Short as it is.

I have a family reunion this weekend which will take me out of town for a bit. I have no delusions that the weather will co-operate with the event but it should be fun, regardless.

We've been doing a lot of biking, but not much fishing, unfortunately. There always seems to be something in the way of that. I miss it so much. There is nothing like a day on the lake. I'm sure Malcolm will say, "Oh yes there is...a DAY ON THE BOAT!" You're such a wisenheimer, Malcolm.

Anyway, just a little hello and hope you're all well. Let me know what you are all doing this summer.

Love,

Jackie...

Hi Jackie
A Day on the Lake on my Boat, perfection!
However I havent gone sailing since I spent $800 having some work done on the diesel engine a couple of weeks ago.

I am both too busy and not busy enough.

I think it is because I am mentally preparing for a huge trial coming up in September that will have me in Toronto and Sudbury from early September through mid November.

I have some work on it right now (I was in Toronto last week in a mediation conference) and am working on some forensic accounting matters as I type this.

I check this board several times a day (and as you know the US Board since we cross paths so often there) but dont see alot of Canadian Power Seller activity here on this board.

I was somewhat surprised, perhaps even upset, when looking for a post I made to the pinks post on eBay's summer Canadian Road trip.

It seems that my post had been pulled. I never recd any notice and there was nothing unkind in it. I praised the Ottawa session, said I enjoyed it but recommended that it be extended by 2 hours as there was insufficient time to ask questions and suggested a different venue be chosen as 90% of the people had problems with parking. I even suggested the PSers could assist with some of the questions from non-PSers.

I guess we are only supposed to shout praise from the highest towers of Babylon and never question our divine leaders but pulling my post was an insult.

My guess is eBay didnt want people seeing that there wasnt sufficient time to answer member questions in the Ottawa conference such that it may sway people from attending later sessions in Western cities.

A proactive business would alot more time for the subsequent sessions and not leave a trail of disatisfied members in its wake.

I guess that is why I choose to post on the US PS Discussion Board, you dont see that type of reaction there (although it came close when a new Pink made a suggestion about cencorship of OTs).

Malcolm

In hindsight, it is possible that should the entire Road Trip now be finished that the OP (a pink - Carley) pulled the entire thread.

All I can hope for is eBay allows more time for future sessions as I think that is where the biggest benefit to members can be found (in Q & A) or is it T & A or is it S & M , although I prefer M & Ms.

Malcolm - yeah, I saw that pink comment on the dot com. But the inmates nearly ran HIS a$$ out of town for even implying censorship....and I haven't heard a word from him since.

Too funny 🙂

Actually he came back with one of the most diplomatic responses you could ever hope to read. In fact he completely turned the tables around in his favor while giving tons of credit to all the comments, the good the bad and the ugly. I was pleasantly shocked at how well he handled his BIG Boo Boo of an initial comment.

He posted a couple of times on 2 or 3 of the other threads and then disappeared, just like THEY all do.

Where do you think they go? What happens to the pinks after they post a couple of times? Where are they hiding or does eBay send them out to pasture somewhere?

I bet there is a little island somewhere of the coast of Califormia where there are 10,000 pinks who all disappeared over the last couple of years.

Strange, very strange indeed!

Its a scary thought Glenda, thats all I have to say.

They post once or twice, tell us how happy they are to be monitiring the board, how things are going to be wonderful and great and la de dah de la de dah and then POW ...

They are gone, poof, vanish, never to be heard from again.

And then no one for months, not a message, not a comment, zip, zero, blank, nothing.

and then on comes the new pink, with tons of enthusiasm, They post on 2 or 3 active threads, say how much they will enjoy learning from all of us and helping out and then POW ...

another one is gone, simply vanished.

Heck, this could be a Best Seller, another Blair Witch low budget movie "The Case of the Vanishing Pinks".

Oh well, back to work, no one is listening (or are they??????)

Geez Malcolm, I must be a wee tad older than you! "The Case of The ....." sounds to me like Erle Stanley Gardiner -- you know, Perry Mason & Della Street with ol' Hammy Berger.

Do you suppose being a pink is the equivalent of being "pushed upstairs" in the eBay world? Poooofffff ........

Upstairs? Do you mean like in a Heaven or Hell scenario or promotion-wise or into that "attic", the room at the top of the stairs where they lock up all the bad children?

And if it is a promotion, what did they do to get such a promotion? Post 2-3 times on the discussion board and receive bonus points for typing skills?

Glenda I just turned a milestone, epic, year this month. I begged for no celebration, no friends, no party, just the wife and kids and a day on the boat sailing.

I got torrential rain and storms and needed to have my diesel engine repraied so no sailing on my boat, no party, no friends, just the wife, kids and my 84 yo mother and that was fine with me!

So for me, it no longer matters about how old I am, it is just downhill from now on when it comes to birthdays. Although my best friend and I agreed that we now start counting backwards until we hit 18 again.

Im not that old and I certainly dont feel it. Inside I dont think I look it either but thats just my imagination playing games with me.

I have always been around Monique, I just didnt post on the boards or sell much for about 6-weeks.

Im still not listing much but I am posting lots.

I saw a couple of your post on the US board the other day. I wish this board would be more active.

I attended an eBay thingy in Ottawa a couple of weeks ago, and out of 150 sellers, there were perhaps 3 Power Sellers there. This was the 3rd meeting held for experienced sellers with a FB of over 50.

It was to assist sellers in providing them with the tools that eBay offers. Power Sellers were invoted to attend for free to show support, help answer questions through networking etc and to get something from the session ourselves.

Too little time for Q & A.

So how are you enjoying, what your 2nd year out of the Corporate World? Do I remember correctly that you were with CT for about 10 years?

Malcolm, I'm thinking of going to that "thingy" here in Victoria next month, but I'm leaning towards "na-a-a-a-ah, probably a waste of a perfectly good evening!)

As far as pinks upstairs, I did mean promotion (as in when you can't think of how else to get rid of deadwood in the office but the union won't let you fire them! [that's a fairly common scenario here in BC, as you may have heard])

By the way, for all of you who seemed to think I'd have to give in sooner or later, well ... you were right! I now accept PainPal. EBay kept sticking the logo on my pages (another glitch??!!!) and it got to be too big a pain having to go in and revise each one separately -- I just caved in, wimp that I am. Now I've got to figure out how to get MY money out of THEIR clutches. I thought I had seen where they would mail a cheque but it turns out that's only for US residents - RATS!! I didn't want to give them a bank account but I guess that's my only option - I'm sure not going to spend all that money on eBay!!

Milestone birthdays come fast and furious once you start having 'em -- I've had a few now! I'm just worried about the one where my daughter decides to tell me I'm "getting cute"! That's when she's warned me she'll take over my care and I don't know if she can afford my internet habit!!

First, on the eBay thingy. I cant say I walked away any smarter or any better a person from attending. I admittedly enjoyed the candor of the CP rep who was both entertaining and accepting of the shortfalls within his organization. I was dissappointed that there was not sufficient time for Q&A (there was a bit but clearly not enough). This would be from the eBay pinks and the CP rep.

I lived and worked in BC in the mid 1970s (Vancouver) and am quite familiar with the promotional protocol for mediocracy in the work force. Too many socialist governments running back to back majorities is the problem with the mentality of the workforce.

Man it would pay me to work as a bus driver in BC. mind you we have a couple of them here in Ottawa pulling down over $130,000 per year with overtime.

Dont fret PayPal, aside from the class action lawsuit filed by tens of thousands of eBay members in the US right now (see the US PS DIscussion Board), I have found them to be quite good for my business and far better than my having to have a merchant account.

The age thing has me worried because my 14 going on 15-year old daughter has recently told me that she wants to go to Harvard in the US to study law. While only going into grade 10 this next September, she has a grade 11 homeroom, is taking grade 11 Law and grade 12 music and maintaining an 84 average while a main position in girls rugby and the senior band.

I guess I had better get some more listings up, I hear Harvard might set me back a couple of dollars.

Geez Malcolm, what kind of a minor milestone did you hit? An under 15-yr old daughter? My BABY is going to celebrate a milestone birthday herself this year -- 40!!! She's been a teacher for a few years after trying life on the entrepreneurial merry-go-round and then hitting university as an adult student. (by then she had to pay her own tuition but we did let her move back in with us after she kicked her brother out! -- that's a lo-o-o-o-ong story) You've heard of the boomerang generation? My generation raised 'em~!

Anyhow, good luck to your daughter -- our son is a musician. He plays jazz guitar and has a teaching studio along with his wife who is a jazz and blues singer. He's on a couple of locally produced CDs but doesn't have the connections for national or international recognition (I'm told he definitely has the talent by one of Stan Kenton's retired members.) Anyhow, he's happy in his life which is my main aim in raising both of them!!

And in case Jeff is around, our son's joining us twice a week for a round of golf!!!! The highlight of our week, I can promise you ( I knew I could turn this thread to golf!!) Our daughter too anytime she's in Victoria ...

Hey Ho my Canadian pals - Jackie, did I tell you I adore fishing? Can't go this year cause of my shoulder problems but I hope to go next year. Maybe we could plan an excursion? Wouldn't that be the best?

Malcolm and I are keeping the Yanks in line over there but it is getting harder and harder to get them out of diapers and into training pants I can tell you.

Pull-ups. That's what they need. Pull-ups.

I could possibly get your son some connections. I work with an entertainment lawyer when I am in Toronto and he could give me the right contacts. He has alot of big name clients like the Bare Naked Ladies.

I also have a good connection with the lead signer of a big Toronto rock band (I sold him a bass guitar last year). His girlfriend is with the promotion division of Virgin Records of Canada. I have her business card as she sent me VIP tickets to the Junos last year when they were in Ottawa.

He is always emailing me and I have an open invitation with back stage passes to any of his band's shows (a Celtic Heavy Metal Rock Band with 2 ex WWF wrestlers that play the bagpipes in the band).

Your son might also consider getting into the jazz concert tours which hit the Canadian cities and US cities throughout the spring and summer. Its great for networking and getting some National and International recognition.

I could make some inquiries with the Ottawa Jazz concert people (we host the 2nd largest Jazz festival in Canada next to Montreal's which is 1st).

Let me know.

PS Hint No 1. my son is turning 20 this year
No. 2 I think Jackie and I are about the same age

Well, son ....

You and Jacki (and Biddie too) you're all mere babes!!!! What milestone did you hit? 35? 40?? 45??? A mere bagatelle!!!

At the moment our son is recuperating from major surgery (an ileostomy) and isn't looking very seriously for more work but in a year or so, when he's fully recovered, things will very likely change. AT that point I may take advantage and send you a demo distribution tape to see what your contacts think .... thanks! I hope it's OK if I file this under "pending".
