Toronto becomes Canada’s first ‘sanctuary’ for illegal immigrants
The City of Toronto has put out the proverbial welcome mat for its' tens of thousands of illegal immigrants.
On Thursday, City Council voted in favour of Motion CD 18.5 — the so-called 'access without fear' motion — making Toronto Canada's first city with a formal policy allowing undocumented migrants access to City services such as foodbanks and homeless shelters.
[ Related: Immigration Minister Jason Kenney defends the transformation of Canada’s immigration system ]
The rationale of the 'don't ask don't tell' style policy is that some undocumented immigrants are causing themselves harm because they don't access services out of fear of detention or deportation.
"I think this is a historic moment,” Councillor Joe Mihevc told reporters according to Now Toronto.
"We’re saying we are a ‘Sanctuary City,’ and that anyone who is in the City of Toronto will be able to access all the services that the City of Toronto offers.
"That’s the kind of city that we want. We want to open our arms to anyone who comes here. While they’re here, mi casa es su casa."
Specifically, the motion, which passed by vote of 37 to 3, requires senior City staff to review opportunities to improve access without fear with regard to all city funded initiatives. It also inclines Council to lobby their provincial and federal counterparts for more friendly policies in the same regard.
One of dissenters was Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong.
"We shouldn’t encourage [undocumented immigrants]. We shouldn’t help them. We should not facilitate them. They are an insult to every immigrant who plays by the rule to get into the country. They are an insult to every immigrant who is waiting to enter this country legally," he told the Toronto Star.
"It sends a message to the world that it is okay to break the law to come to Canada and it says that the City of Toronto is an accomplice to this lawbreaking."
In addition to Minnan-Wong's concerns, some analysts worry that the new rules will encourage illegal immigrants from across the country to descend upon the Greater Toronto Area.

To further add,
I took my kids to serveral idle no more events. My children are proud natives and were very excited and happy to participate.
My oldest who will be 17 began following the events nation wide. One evening she approached me and said that she read some very bad comments about natives on a online news article feedback section
I told her, Sweety search any news media online edition across canada then come back with with your thoughts.
Well her and her younger sister were reduced to tears by what they read.
Its awful and sad to have to raise my kids in such enviroment.
canada is a racist country bar none. canada has absolutely nothing to be proud of.
Recently a medicine man told me because of the rampant racism across canada that at this point everyone must be deemed racist until proven otherwise. Sadly I have to agree

You know the saying "if you don't condemn it you are condoning it"I feel there's a lot of people including myself who have found a way around it by putting our heads in the sand so we don't see ,hear bigotry therefore we don't have to react by condemning it,I truly believe what you read is from a vocal minority and their voice can only be heard in absence of the silent majority.
It is easy to sit behind a keyboard and fan the flame of hatred, words once written are a powerful thing, but I for one believe of you went door to door in different segments of the society you would not get the impression that every one is racist.
I have heard negative comments about our natives but it has never ever wavered my respect and admiration for them.

The problem with many people in Canada, and other parts of the world is they are disillusioned and angry. They are angry inside at so many things from governments and politicians and income and costs of living and on and on and on. They are angry at their impotence to do anything about the real important things, the governments the corporations the price gouging etc etc etc . So, what do they do?……they go after those they can attack to release that anger and it’s always the minorities, the immigrants, the people on assistance, the poor , the Native people. That has always been the way throughout history…..find a sacrificial lamb, a scapegoat. It then becomes the thing to do, a feeding frenzy of the jackals. And the media loves it because it’s good for business and those in power love it because it plays right into their agendas and often keeps the focus off them and what they are doing behind the drapes.
Truly happy people do not act like this. Well informed people do not act like this.
In real life I am a very happy person. I may prefer green grass to snow and I may get frustrated if the girl at the coffee counter can’t remember what I wanted in my coffee two seconds after I ordered it……but generally speaking I am a happy person. Some may find that hard to believe. LOL What makes me unhappy are unhappy people who unjustifiably force their unhappiness on others and make them ….unhappy. Racism, bigotry, slander, lies, that affect the lives of people for the benefit of others is ….unacceptable and I will never tolerate it. Neither is silence an option because that is permission.

For some reason this verse from Psalm 55:21 comes to mind. Many who are not "religious" will also be very familiar with it....

Many native communities have recieved threats and threats of violence across canada. A retaliation for blockades, anger their police will not protect them and so on.
Many of our women and elderly are scared, and or scared to leave their communities.
Plans are being put into place to deal with these issues.
Until then, how do we identify the culprits?
Is deeming everyone racist until proven otherwise the solution?
Its not going to be pretty:^O

Do I think that it reflects on all Chinese? No!
Where do you think that line cae from - it is in my original message.

I said it.
I said it.

Where?
The cheap gas or the palms?
Just joking my gas ain't that cheap.
Palms ,florida with the kids. A treat/reward for acheiving excellent grades this year.
2 are in private school which is tough as nails with a heavy work ethic.
And yes I pay dearly for the private school for my kids not free as many would like to think around these parts.
Unfortunately I can no longer participate on the gut wrenching amusement rides because of some health issues, but on the mend.:-D

I have criticized organized religion - particularly the Catholic religion - on many occasions.
Do you read anything before you attempt to discredit it?
Seems not.
Above is the statement I made. Where did I say that it came from you?
02-27-2013 03:28 PM
However you also seem to have missed the many times I have said I have nothing against Conservatives in general
Sorry, they must have been well hidden amongst the many messages haranguing Harper and the Conservatives.
02-27-2013 03:31 PM
And the news media allows such bigotry. Very sad.
Have you ever complained about it?
There are laws against racial based hatred.
I have also read a number of native based online "newspapers" which are filled with hatred for whites. But, I guess you have no problem with that.

canada has absolutely nothing to be proud of.
Damn! I was proud of some of our natives. Guess I am wrong again. According to you, I can't even be proud of them.
So everyone in Canada, except the natives are racist. But you, who paint everyonewith the same brush, are not?

Cool. Have fun. I expect ..........pictures!!!
I'm just chuckling to myself. There must be some out there in never never land thinking "what's this Mohawk warrior doing going on vacation and his kids are in private school"!!!! Don't shatter their visions to much, I hate to hear the crying and gnashing of teeth.
And if you're interested I work real cheap. Carrying luggage, even trunks, no problem. All I need is to be able to put a Harley in the overhead compartment and a bottle of rum and I'm a happy camper.

puck you should be writing for Harper, or if he was still in power, Bush.
Here's the deal puck. Look at it this way. Did Germany have anything to be proud of after WW2? Sadly a country and it's citizens inherit the evils of their leaders, especially when they did nothing about it and later when they say things like "oh that was long ago forget about it". Try telling that to Jewish people.
Neither is it those who actually perpetrated crimes against people and humanity, it is also those who stood by and said ......nothing. Their silence was .....permission.
Now we enter a new era and the tactics have changed but the game is still the same.
Canada and their treatment of the First Nations people....nothing to be proud of. Did you know that Native people couldn't even vote in Canada until 1960! That's a short 53 years ago.

Your welcome to come, have a big condo with alot of space awaiting.
You will have to give a arm and half a leg to put your hog in the overhead. Better off to ride it down. More than 2 trips to the airplane bathroom they charge.
I am flying from US earlier in the day and will pick up my gang at the airport.
