Trust .... An interesting read....

"In my role as the leader of the Trust Organization, I am committed to focusing on the things that are most important to you and your business. As such, I would like to hear from you. What are your top priorities? What are we not addressing? Please share your thoughts and questions with me in the comments below, or in person at the eBay Seller Summit next month. The more we learn from you, the better we can stay true to our mission of building the world’s most vibrant marketplace.  And, we know we can only do this when we accelerate trust between eBay and our selling community, and increase trust between sellers and buyers. "

I wonder how many sellers who constantly have a long list of concerns about eBay will take the time

Trust has to be earned, not just given.   A lot of changes on ebays part has to come about, before I will bestow my trust on them.  As a seller, I trust only myself.  I continue to sell, and cross my fingers, every time I ship (with tracking), that the item gets to its destination in one piece.  Regarding returns.  When a buyer claim an item has been returned, and I never got it back, I have no recourse.  ebay simply issues buyers a full refund.  It seems, refunds are given without any proof (tracking #) that the item was returned.  When I called ebay CS, and asked them to review this particular case, she said, "we don't worry about small amounts like that" ($80.00 + fees).  I guess I am lucky, so far it has only happened once.

An interesting read.

Each seller has to decide its meaning.

That had a lot of seller perspective in it, American perspective, but still.

I will be there next month. I will have to track this person down and chat face to face.

I just spend 15 minutes entering a response, with a whole list of suggestions, into the box provided on that link/screen, only to find out at the end that you can't post your comments without a Facebook account (which I don't yet have, and am not sure I want, given the security issues FB has had).

So sellers should be aware that this isn't a completely open invitation.  I wish eBay had thought to link it somehow directly to their site.

Unfortunately I can't afford to attend their Summit.

Yes, I had the same problem - spent some time on a comment only to find it could not go anywhere without Facebook.

This person at ebay should have considered that not everyone is on ebay.

  • Full details of the updates will come in September
  • Shortly thereafter, sellers will have access to a preview in their seller dashboard, showing their progress towards the new seller performance standards
  • The new seller performance standards will go into effect early next year

I find the portion I set in bold somewhat troubling. Perhaps it is jusy badly worded or perhaps it is worded precisely as they mean it.

If you are already a  top rated seller and a power seller, for example, are you about to be stripped of that in lieu of some new system rating that will negate all of your hard work up until this point and you will have to then start from scratch, all over again? At this point, in my case, with already being a  top  rated power seller the only thing I have to progress toward is a higher level of that (bronze to silver at the next level I believe)which is pretty much unattainable given the stats required to do so and the size of my business currently. Don't get me wrong as I am very happy with my status but will not be happy to see it hurt in the least by some new system, that if the past is any barometer, will likely be a ridiculous cluster you know what. So what do I have to progress towards then? Are they referring to new sellers or sellers that have already been devastated by previous ridiculous changes progressing towards some new carrot at the end of the stick just to get back to where they were before previous changes hammered their accounts?

I know this might sound like a foolish notion but look at the stupidity of some of Ebay's past decisions regarding things like returns and defects. Changes that have literally destroyed some small sellers accounts without just cause.

The performance standards that led to my achieving TRS and Power Seller don't need any changing as far as I am concerned as they are quite fair. I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me on that so what exactly is going to be changed in these new standards? I have a very real fear that the volume required to achive the status I now have is going to be increased astronomically and if that does happen it will really confirm where Ebay is going in so far as we smaller sellers are concerned.

Many questions to be answered and it was absolutely ridiculous that a Facebook account was required to comment on this but ridiculous seems to be in pretty abundunt supply around Ebay.

Just my 2 cents.

Off eBay discussions,  or groups perhaps sponsored by eBay, are found on sites such as Facebook...  also Twitter,maybe...

eBay sellers were the first to do this...

Then came eBay itself... only recently, it would appear to be so.

Many sellers choose not to be a part of Facebook or Twitter... mainly because of the low level of security.. something that no seller on eBay can afford...me included.

I had the same reaction -- uh-oh, here we go again, monkeying with something that worked (I agree with you that the Power Seller and TRS standards are quite fair).

I've wondered for some time why eBay left the volume and dollar requirements relatively low and when they would finally be bumped up.  I always find the wait  prior to each Seller Update a bit of nail-biter.  I was indescribably relieved this spring when they touched almost nothing in the Update.  It sounds as if that won't be the case for this fall.  I'm going to wait for the Update before I make any further changes to my store or my listings that I had planned to do.

If not a big briefcase, how about a big codpiece?  I understand they've been used for centuries to carry important papers (we see a lot of Scots in kilts around here, and they've told me so.  Not that I've verified it, mind you.)  Woman LOL

Um, I'd better stop myself or the mods will stop me....

Whoops, I ruined my own joke -- I meant sporran, not codpiece.  LOL   (Not a joke if I have to explain it, right?).

On second thought, maybe I should have originally said "suitcase".  I'll have to consider carefully before signing up with Facebook just to be able to submit suggestions.  Rather silly of eBay not to post that invitation somewhere on the site, I think.

Yup, this heat is really getting to me.  I'm thinking we may go jump in the bay this evening to cool off (you know, down by the bay where the watermelons grow).

Now I've really lost it, eh?
