Hi everyone, me again: I've read that it is advisable to post listings in US dollars. I really can't decide. What are the pros and cons??
Thanks
Wendy

The pros and cons were discussed a lot years ago, now that the two currencies are at par I'm not sure it really matters anymore.
For most buyers eBay displays the price in their local currency anyway so even less reasons to use one or the other.
I do list in US Dollars but really at this point it's just because I always have.
There was a time tears ago when the fee structure was slightly different (listing fees), not really sure if that is true anymore.
One thing, whatever currency you sell in should also be your billing currency otherwise you will be paying extra on the conversion spread.

Thanks recped. I was thinking along the same lines as your first couple of paragraphs, but wasn't sure if I might be missing something.
I will check out the fee structure. I guess that will end up being important if my starting price is right at the cusp between one rate and the other and I list in Cdn dollars but am looking at the fee structure for US. Hmmm, not sure but it's worth checking out.
Thanks for the tip about billing currency. I will make sure that is attended to also.

No-one in the world knows what the Loonie is worth besides Canuckistanians. Americans still think of it as worth only pennies. Everyone in the world knows the American dollar. Use that.

About a year ago, my wife changed all her auctions to CAD. Interestingly enough, almost all of her US buyers disappeared. She changed back to USD and her sales to the US picked right up again. Her Canadian sales never changed with either currency. Go figure.

Ebays little blurb about "15% more likely to sell in US$' has been there for ages, back when mailing payment was common (americans had no way to mail CAN$), the CAN$ was 30% below the US$, listing fees were a lot more of the cost, and CP shipping rates weren't as much of an issue
The listing fees are the same, so not any advantage while the currencies are close. The advantage or disadvantage is the cost of exchange. Ebay is getting an extra 5% from most transactions where a Can seller lists in US$ and sells to a Canadian. Or the Can seller who lists in US$ probably has to pay 2.5% exchange premium to get it out of paypal (i don't, but that would be a 25% increase in my cost of selling here)
If you aren't opening a store you'll probably want to list on both sites for the free listings and can use both currencies. I don't believe listing in CAN$ affects sales outside of Canada at all, no one needs to know the exchange rate as ebay displays the home site amount. Don't know what you are selling or how you are shipping, but the postal changes here and in the USA are going to have a lot of Can sellers relying more and more on domestic sales, with more to save in exchange rate on Can-Can sales.
There has definitely been increased use in CAN$ listings, the largest sellers in Canada do. Some of the other huge ones are using US$ only because they are using software that doesn't(or didn't ) support listing on .ca

After selling on here for 8 years in US funds I switched to Canadian funds about a year ago, best decision Ive made on the site to date, I sell more to canadian customers and have not lost any overseas or american customers. Have saved tons of money of fvf , paypal and paypal shipping fees and I no longer look at money market charts to see when the best day to take money of of Paypal is. A dollar is only a dollar when its in your countrys own funds.

Wet, I disagree a bit. My Cdn sales went up when the Cdn dollar went above the USA dollar.
