USPS First Class Mail International now has tracking

To add salt into the injury (for Canadians), USPS started scanning all outgoing First Class Mail items. This "tracking" only works till item leaves USA, but it shows at least one sorting center record, which is way better than showing "Electronic shipment received" with no records.

Handful of countries like France do scan FCI items and USPS processes their records, so it will work like full-fledged tracking all the way to "Delivered".

FCI starts at $1.44 for 1oz mail item and there is no 20mm limit.

If there is someone starting any "revolution", forget eBay feedback. Start postal revolution in Canada, because everybody is adding value, except CanadaPost who is adding price.

They (CP) do claim to be adding Signature On Delivery to some USA services, that's something that is not available from USPS for ANY International service including Express.

Welcome back. How was the trip?

Dipmicro....so are you saying that usps first class mail will have delivery confirmation to Canada? If so, they charge a small fee for delivery confirmation within the U.S. so I imagine they will charge extra for international packages as well?

I've heard that you can't buy signature confirmation for Priority from the U.S. but I thought that you could for Express. If they can't add on a signature confirmation, why then do I have to sign for so many of my packages from the U.S.?

pjcdn2005, type LN062190928US to USPS website. This mail was for Canada and CanadaPost does not scan First Class Mail items.

Now type LN062379416US. This was 0.09kg mail piece and we paid $3.12 total to send it.

I could be wrong but I think that is a customs number and those are often trackable while in the U.S. But I don't see how it is an added value to anyone since there's no delivery confirmation. It would be useful in the case of a credit card chargeback but not for a INR.

There is no online record of the second number that you listed.

They are customs numbers. Second one is from customer who opened PayPal dispute, USPS shows delivered in France on Aug. 11. After I pasted this number to PayPal, guy said it just came (Aug 25) and closed the dispute.

This has not been working on most FCI before, only recently they started scanning all of them. I did not look for exact date but when I tried about 5 numbers from June 25, none of them came up with any records and status is "Electronic Shipping Info Received".

Not available for USPS Express either. You have to sign when you receive a package from the USA if there is taxes payable or it's sent via Express but as far as I know in neither case is this information passed back to USPS at least not in a form acceptable for PayPal/eBay SPP.

Please don't misunderstand, I posted this as a "just sayin", I totally agree that the rates are crazy high especially at the low end of the weight scale. The lack of any reasonable domestic service for light weight packages that are over 2cm is also completely ridiculous.
