WEIRD PAYPAL PAYMENT REQUEST... ??

I received an email from a potential buyer yesterday, indicating that they tried to purchase the following item using the 'BIN' option.

Item number: 270233011149

When they went to Paypal, it automatically asked them for their credit card information, as opposed to allowing them to pay from their Paypal account. They explained that their bank account was linked to Paypal, but not their credit card info, and they were not about to give Paypal their credit card info...

Has anyone encountered something like this in the past?

I contacted Paypal and they told me that once the person logs in to their account, they can choose with mode or form of payment they would like to proceed with, and that it wouldn't go directly to a credit card purchase.

My understanding is that once you setup your bank account with Paypal, you can buy with that approach and if your paypal account doesn't have enough funds to cover the purchase, then Paypal is authorized to take it from your bank account.

Could I maybe have the payment option mixed up in my listing? I checked it, but I only have the usual areas checked off, like use Paypal and immediate payment required if the 'BIN' option is chosen. In fact, this item is only listed as a 'BIN' item, not an auction item.

Does anyone have any idea how the request for a credit card could happen with a Paypal account linked to a bank account only?

Thanks,

Frank

Could be that Paypal requires a secondary source for funds as a backup in the event the buyer does not have the funds in their bank account to cover the transaction amount.

Paypal will at most times for small purchase amounts, authorize the transaction before they actually get the funds from the buyers account - they do this for buyers that are in good standing with them and have multiple funding sources.

If they don't have a credit card on file with PayPal the only thing they can send is from a balance or an echeck. In order to make an "instant payment" they must have a cc on file as backup.
