The conservative candidate didb't show for London gay pride parade yesterday.
Niether did the conservative MP for the riding where the parade ran.
Do they not see the issues involved as human rights instead of gay rights?

Valve.
I cannot believe tha in 2013 that his race and religious beliefs are a deciding factor on whether you will vote for this man.
Don't vote for him and get the NDP who propped up the wasteful, lying liberals.

only problem is it's his WIFE'S views they are concerned about NOT his !!!
what a SCARY SCARY SCARY thought ,that they would base a vote on someone other than the candidate's views!!! (Well I can see taking the party leader's view into it-but NOT a spouse!)
if you found out Justin trudeau's Wife once donated to the NDP or Conservatives, would that mean that he agrees with the NDP or Conservative platform and therfore he could not have your vote?
All I can say is WOW

"it's his WIFE'S views they are concerned about"
If you stop to think about it for a second, it is more than his wife's views. It reflects on his judgement.
Trudeau is married to a TV journalist, you are married to someone working at a pharmacy (so am I), these things do not reflect on our judgement. This case is different.
Sometimes you vote for something or someone, sometimes you vote against something or someone. I applaud valve's decision to stand up and do what's right in his judgement.

Once in a while I find myself enjoying a moment in life that was totally unexpected.
Here we have a dyed in the wool Conservative who is also a supporter of Israel and he is now facing an election where the Conservative candidate is not only Muslim, but the candidate’s wife is very open about her support for the Palestinian people. What a conundrum! It’s like being on a ship, with no water to drink.

Mikey, it's also his wishy washy stand on Sharia law and the fact that he will not outright condem it. That is probably the main obstacle in London voter's minds. Consider that 3 young males who attended mosques left London together a couple years ago and 2 of them took part in a terrorist attack on a gas facility losing their lives. The 3rd male was charged with terrorism and was held in jail until recently let out and returned here. Do you not think Mikey that sticks in London voter's minds when considering Ali?
IMO the party should have chosen a different candidate. Nothing wrong with the man himself but the choice may have blown up in their face. They didn't consider that dirty politics could enter into it and upset the process.
Many here are of the opinion that a husbands drunk driving charge did our previous mayor in a few years ago and we now have a mayor facing criminal charges. A spouse's actions/views do not matter in the election process, is that what you are saying Mikey?

Imo anyone who voted against DeCicco because of her husband's action,s are mowrons.
I voted against her because I didn't like HER.
I had my suspisions about Joe but was to willing to get rid of DeCicco.
Chibar's wife has legitimate reasons to condem the actions of the state of Israel.
Imo Chibar was a lot better about his views on sharia laws than most politicians are when asked important questions.
If he gets elected and brings forward legislation to bring it in. Feel free to vote him out.
Does sharia law allow his wife to protest or does it expect her to be subservient to her husband and not get involved in political activities?

STILL Not Mikey--but will answer
if you think your wife CANNOT have her own views on things and MUST follow YOUR views and ONLY your views--YOU need help!!!
I have been married a VERY long time and I cannot tell you who my wife votes for as that is HER responsibility. We have dicussed politics every once and a while and she has her views on things and I have mine--are they the same? NO
Does she tell me what I should think--NO
do I tell her what she should think-NO
apparently from your comments you have more of an issue with his race and religion than you do on his policy!!!

so are you saying that if Trudeau's wife came out in support of getting rid of gun registry (don't remember if your in favour ornot just an example) and Justin's does not make his views known that you would vote against him for his wive's veiws.
and only used that as an example. It could be your against abortion and find out that his wife had one-do you base your vote for a person's partner based on their views???
I judge the person NOT who they are realated to!

Did anyone ask him about his stand on Sharia? I read the LFP all the time and I never read that he was asked about that. Never.
I think the “obstacle” in some voters minds in London is two fold. First those who don’t like Muslims at any cost……..and then there are those who don’t…..let me rephrase that…….who hate..... Hudak. The comments that I read in the LFP when it came to this election and believe me there has been a LOT! …..never once was Sharia mentioned but the dislike for Hudak was rabid, even by Conservative voters.
Neither has his wife got anything to do with Sharia. You’re bouncing all over the place about her. First you said it was her stand on Israel and now you bring up Sharia.
They didn't consider that dirty politics could enter into it and upset the process.
Dirty politics? Well dirty or not (I suppose it’s become the norm these days) all that I heard from the main three candidates was “get rid of the Liberals” over and over and over again………but when it came to actual answers about jobs, Ontario in general etc etc etc etc ….NONE of the candidates had one good reply…….zip, nada, ziltch! And once again the media was playing the main three parties and little if any time was given to other parties that were also in the election. The media…….especially any newspaper associated with the Sun dynasty was promoting the CONs like they were the second coming…..and they are…the second coming of the Mike Harris regime.
Many here are of the opinion that a husbands drunk driving charge did our previous mayor in a few years ago and we now have a mayor facing criminal charges.
Oh Please!!!!!!! DiCicco was on her way out anyhow, her husband was after the fact and…..only small minded people felt he had any influence over the election. To her credit, she stood beside him because she felt marriage was the most important (it's a Catholic thing) and with a bit of luck he has learned his lesson in spades for not just what he did to himself but how much he embarrassed his wife and family. He was stupid, made a stupid mistake.......end of story.

I must be losing it. Actually getting interested in ON by-elections (I am not in ON)!
Pretty impressive win for the NDPs in London!
Quite enlightened voters down that way apparently 🙂
08-01-2013 11:10 PM
The people are tired of the Conservatives and ticked off with the Liberals. NDP are what's left. That doesn't mean they were a 'third' choice, it means the people are believing in the NDP and the legacy of Jack Layton. Now all the NDP have to do is show the people they were not wrong. It's that simple.
08-02-2013 07:57 AM
the NDP will never get elected as the governing party so it was an easy protest vote against the Liberals!
They do not like Hudak and hate the Liberals so it was the only choice left.
08-02-2013 08:12 AM
"the NDP will never get elected as the governing party"
I remember hearing that a few decades ago.
Then Bob Rae came along in 1990 to defeat David Peterson and form a majority NDP government.
In politics, one should never say "never".

The big problem with the Ontario PC party is Hudak.
He is in denial. I saw him claim victory after losing 4 of 5 ridings.
I cannot see the PC party ever taking over with Hudak as leader of the party.
08-02-2013 10:35 AM
"The big problem with the Ontario PC party is Hudak."
I agree. He is trying too much to be a second Mike Harris.
The big losers in Ontario yesterday were the Liberals. That was expected. They lost three of five seats.
The winner was the NDP capturing two seats.
As far as the Conservative seat in Etobicoke, it is difficult to gauge how much of that was a vote for the Conservative Party and how much was a referendum on the Ford municipal administration.
08-02-2013 11:27 AM
Did someone here yesterday say, it doesn't natter?
08-02-2013 12:03 PM
Did someone here yesterday say, it doesn't natter?
If anyone had one four or more of the five seats it would have been interpreted as the biggest thing ever!
IMO Hudak may not be popular but people are beginning to understand that Harperism only benefits the 1% and it isn't rocket science to see that the ON PCs are basically Harperist.
08-02-2013 12:04 PM
"won" 🙂
