Here's the long answer:
Another poster worked this out for buyers who have not yet received their GSP shipment.
TRACKING SYSTEM FOR GSP
It's not user friendly... But I found how to track your package via the global shipping program, once it gets to Canada you need to:
- Log on to eBay.ca
- Under the My eBay menu select Purchase History
- Under your orders find the specific order. It should have something like the following:
Estimated delivery Mon, Jan 11 - Thu, Jan 21
Tracking number: Tracking number UPAAB000000#########
- Click on the UPA number. This should open up a Shipment Details window, which should contain something like this:
This shipment has been transferred to CPC for delivery to the final destination # 70351#########
-Click on the Canada Post number to see where the Canada Post Tracking history and expected delivery
If you are not home when the carrier attempts delivery, you will get a Notice about where and when the parcel can be picked up.
However.
If the date that eBay gave you for the last estimated date for arrival has passed, go to the Resolution Centre at the bottom of this page and open an Item Not Received dispute.
State in the Dispute that this is a Global Shipping Program problem.
If the GSP cannot prove delivery, you will be refunded.
This is NOT your seller's fault or responsibility.

I agree that when the package is handed over from the GSP hub to the carrier who will be seeing it across the border, it would be nice to know what carrier it is so that it can be tracked.
You may have to watch your Order History on the item and simply wait until it comes into Canada in order to see the carrier identified.
I too most recently used the GSP for a purchase I need as a gift (against my better judgement from past experience) so I am in the same boat as you: looking at a tracking number without the necessary context that would make the information useful to me.
As to the myriad of other emails that have come from ebay about this GSP transaction, I must say those have improved tremendously from the days or yore. These email messages are very informative and specific.
Yet I still have no idea who my carrier is or when my order may be delivered.

There is no way to know when you WILL receive it. On just about any tracked item, no matter which service is used, about all you can do is follow along where and see where it has been. You might know when it leaves a certain facility, such as Calgary, that it might take a day or 2 to get to where you live, for example.
To track this item, enter the Global number here:

After that it will most likely come by Canada Post unless it is unusually big and heavy, then maybe a courier like CanPar. Either way, this link should still work.
