Why isn't the time continuing for few seconds after last second biddings?

I've lost an item I wanted so badly because of snipers and I still wonder why Ebay does not allow more time for people to have the chance to bid again.

Why not just put in your max bid?

Because I dont want to pay more if I have a chance to get it at a cheaper price.

Time is not the issue. Generally speaking , auctions will not be won with low ball bids.

Beause there would be no end to the auction and people would just move to Fixed Price-- as they already are.

If you bid your maximum, you can still be outbid, but that guy will have to pay more than you are willing to.

If you try to nibble, some fast finger will outbid you at a price lower than you are willing to pay.

Bid once, bid your maximum, bid late. KISS.

There is a site that continues if bids are placed during the last few seconds. It is quite annoying to see the auction about to end in 2 seconds only to have more time added because someone placed a bid on second before time expired thus adding more time to the auction.

With the millions of potential legitimate and sport bidders on ebay, auctions, especially for popular items, would go on from here until the cows come home if time was extended on ebay.

Non paying buyers deserve unpaid item strikes.

Hello 'trudel',

You're wondering why ebay does not allow more time for people to rebid??  Most auctions go on for a week, -- how much more time do you need?

Sniping is part of the game on ebay, - it's where the fun is!  But no matter how much you bid, there is always the chance someone has deeper pockets - or a deeper desire for the item - than you.

It takes a few tries to get the hang of it, but first thing you must do is decide on your max bid.  There's always a sniper, so those hesitant 'feeler' bids will do you no good at all at the end of an auction.

If you want to put a bare minimum bid on at the start of an auction, - it puts it in your Bids/Offers file and you can easily find and watch it.  Lots of people do that, - and they decide what, if anything, they will return to snipe later.

When you place a bid, ebay only doles out as much as necessary to keep you in the lead, until someone surpasses it and outbids you.  Ebay auctions are different from live auctions that way.  Have a look at the following links about ebay auctions, - they are clearly written and you really need to know all this if you plan to bid much on ebay.  How bidding works:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/automatic-bidding.html

About bid increments:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/bid-increments.html

and that ever-important getting outbid:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/outbid.html.

Decide on the very most you would be willing to pay, where you simply cannot go a cent more, not one penny.  Bid that as late as possible.  If you are highest, you win.

If you have laid down the most you could happily and comfortably pay, should you get outbid it might actually be a relief.  And if you never bid more than you can comfortably and easily afford, - you will never pay 'too much'.

Happy bidding. 🙂
