Yearly Store committment

In the recent E-Bay Spring announcement it was stated that if you commit to a yearly store committment your monthly rate is a little bit lower. How do I go about letting Ebay know I will commit to a years subscription? I already have a subscription to a Premium Store. Do I need to resign up again?...Thanks for the advice.

I did not read it through and signed up for a year.  It looks like selling manager pro was taken away on my ebay.com.  I still have it on ebay.ca but it says it is a trail.  I don't know why by singing on for a year, something that was free is now $15.00.  Also, should I need to opt out of my yearly subscription, I will owe eBay one third of the remaining fees.  Had I really looked into this, I would have left it as is.  😞

I looked at all the Ebay blather and decided it was a good time to close my store. I will use the 50 free lstings each month and take avantage of any free listing periods that they may offer.

From what I see on the Fee Illustrator, if I close my Store and just have my 1600+ listings on GTC, I save about $7 a month.

The only problem is that if I go on vacation, I would have to put all 1600 listings into Unsold for a week or so and then relist them when I return. But I can do that easily enough. My one concern is if pictures don't carry over, especially those that are a year or so old.

And then I think, well, I'm not moving 1600 books when we retire out West next year, so this would be one way to winnow the crowd.

Then I crack open a bottle of cheap Chilean wine and forget about it all....

An aside, but I didn't quite follow you on this - I've used "vacation" settings a few times to put my store in stasis mode, and the items didn't require relisting when I resumed.  Once you take the vacation setting off, they all reappear, at least I thought that's what was happening...???

I had to smile at your comment about moving 1600 books to the West Coast.  We just went the other direction (from Victoria, BC, where we'd lived for 17 years) to Nova Scotia, with about the same number of books.  It was about $9,000 for the lot.  We got a good freight rate through Bekins, whom I can highly recommend.  Then we had to find a house with the space to accommodate them all. 😮

We figured a lifetime's worth of book collecting -- mostly hardcovers and many rather rare -- was worth about $0.50 a piece.  No, we don't sell our books.  Either real book lovers or just plain fools, eh?

I sometimes miss the beautiful surroundings of Victoria and VanIsle, and the cherry blossoms in spring, but not the weather.  I love the changing of the seasons, and I don't like weeks of rain without seeing the sun.  And I definitely did not enjoy the earthquakes (sorry to mention it :-().  Be sure to get a really good brolly or better still, half a dozen ...;-)

Rose, if Femme didn't have store..which is what she was referring to...there is no vacation mode. They would have to be ended and then relisted.

I didn't realize non-store sellers couldn't also use "vacation" settings, my error.  I've always had a store since I began selling on eBay...

To femmefan -- Perhaps then the ability to use "vacation" would be a helpful feature that would make the cost of keeping a store worthwhile.  I also feel that "branding", i.e. having a recognizable look on eBay, has real-world value.  And I must admit, I use the Omniture service and many of the other marketing and promotional features a great deal.  For me at least, the monthly store fee itself isn't the only criterion.

Also, as one poster recently pointed out, the store listing fees, especially now that a significant number will be free each month, are really insignificant overall compared to FVFs.

I think Pierre made this point recently (which I honestly hadn't considered previously in this way).  If I recall, he calculated that on average 73 listing fees would be charged per GTC item over a 6-year period, assuming no free listings at all.  That's 73 x $0.20 = $14.60 per item for 6 years, or $2.43 per year per item (assuming listing prices remain steady).  And let's hope most items will sell before 6 years are up! 😐

That yearly cost will of course now diminish with free store listings in the mix.  Who knows, eBay may also still offering occasional listing promotions as well.

For all the above reasons, and a few more, I'm hanging on to my store.
